I live in the deep south, a red state, Ugh! I find myself very much a liberal stuck in a right wing Republican racist state! It's hideous.

 

How did you find yourself able to move to such a wonderful place in this world? I have heard it is uber expensive.

Benzo lie:  I'm afraid.  It must be a valid observation, and I should really be afraid of this or that.  It's our brain chemistry out of whack and our amygdala is overstimulated with glutamate for right now.  It will settle down.

I have cancer

I m gonna have a heart attack

I am dying

I have a brain tumor

My brain is damage for ever

People see my as a drug addicted person even though I just use prescription meds.

I m gonna be blind

I had have so many illness and been to the ER 4-5 times in a week...Hypochondria

I will end up in a straight jacket because I am crazy

I will never ever laugh again

I am alone with this symptoms

Etc...

And all it is/are is in my head

When I started to realise that many of my w/d symptoms was born in my head and I feed them with my fear they become less and now I have symptoms but I am not afraid. I know they are there but I tell myself to not let them rule my world and life.. .

Same here.  They really are just invented by us. They don't exist beyond our imaginations. I've heard it described as 'awfulizing'. Oh, I have an ache, oh, I have a pain....it's going to be 'awful'. The doctor is going to find something 'awful'....and on and on. In reality, they are just ordinary aches and pains. It's just so hard sometimes to get out of our own heads to look at it rationally.....

Thanks for posing this River!  I am getting down to the final Valium taper steps (should be done by end of Nov.), and have been wondering what "happy" will be like.  Been on Wellbutrin for 15 years (still am) and benzos for at least 8 years.  I am looking forward to being benzo free, happy, or enjoying life (like I see others do).  It's weird to see such enjoyment and wonder why I'm so "flat".  I will say your post is VERY true.  Now that the Valium dosage is really getting down (1mg AM/1mg PM), I get hours or a day of really laughing, joking and enjoying time with family and friends.  I'll be visiting this topic often as a mental reminder of what IS true!  Thanks again.

That because I'm older, it's going to take a long, long time to heal.
