The math of half life:

One half life is when one half is gone, or is left

2 half lives is when 1/4 is left

3 half lives is when 1/8 is left

4 half lives is when 1/16 is left

5 half lives is when 1/32 is left

then at 5 half lives it is pretty much the end.

that is just a numerical way , our bodies may be a bit different.

good healing

im ok right now...really upset i feel like i am paralized...i was watching people pass by in the ER and it made me so sad to know that I cant be where they are at right now...but i think the fact that I am well enough to be on here is a good sign...hopefully things dont make a turn for the worse...

just really bummed it has to be like this, i hate the doctor who put me on this CRAP!

how are u lizzy? :smitten:

the definition of half is the time it takes for one half to be gone, right?

so after the first half life, you have half left....

then take that half, and take half of it away... that would be a half of a half which is a quarter.

then take half of what is left (1/4) again. One half of a quarter is 1/8

do you see? It is just math. Probably not something you want to be doing now, lol

it is not all that important to recovery, but i saw a bunch of discussion.

We dont fit an exact mathematical model. Half life is not exact. It is an average of the data. That is why there is a range for it. That is all, not  a big deal. I feel like i am trying to correct spelling here, and that is not kewl.

good healing, fair winds

Yes, Jane.  You are correct.  Technically, just about all of the Valium should be out of your system in 8.33 days.

oh no, more math!!

My book says that the half life of valium is 20 to 70 hours.

so If we take 70 hours as the half life.

then 5 half lives is 350 hours.

350 hours is approximately 15 days. Then I guess you could say that the valium is gone. But again, we are all different.

Also, my book says that the metabolites can have a half life of up to 200 hours.

So if the half life is 200 hours:

5 half lives is 200 times 5 equals 1000 hours. 1000 hours equals 41 days. I dont know about the metabolites.

just more math...

good healing

I believe Ashton says the half-life of Valium is from 50-200 hours, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks.

yeah depends on metabolisim age and all that stuff...

feeling at my best now than I have all day...a little mini window :)

That's great to hear, Jane.  By the way, the 8.33 days is the maximum half-life of Valium (since 200 hours = 8.33 days).  You would still have Valium left in your system after that, but probably wouldn't notice it.

Sincerely,

fg

So then at 8 days you would have only half the valium left in your system.

So then using Ashton's figures, you would be valium free at 41 days.

good healing Jane.
