This is for Me

i spend my days caring for others but it’s just the job of loving mothers

i jump when a problem arise to make prompt solutions thorough and wise

All to help whenever I can just to be loving ground for someone to stand

But then one day it was my turn to take on a beast who scorch and burn

It gripped my body in his vice and demanded so many months to pay a price

It invaded my mind with thoughts of dread as it made me afraid of what was ahead

I stood my ground although I was small for I knew in my heart who’d catch my fall

All of a sudden it began to release its grasp then I began to rip apart that clasp

i swung my warrior’s sword so free because this fight wasn’t for my family…this was for me!

So I’ll be damned if I just let the beast win, I said to myself as I fixated on it’s end

Yelling it loud as loud can be as it gave me more strength that I’m fighting for me

A Little Philosophy

There will be no talk of Benzos in today's rhythmic verse.
No, that's not what is on my mind.
I've written plenty about the ravages of that curse.
For those folks suffering from BIND.

Today's scribbles will speak to the hardships of life.
The adversity we endure every day.
Finances, relationships, job worries and strife.
Affecting us all in in some unwelcome way.

Our trials are just part of the human condition.
The lessons we must learn as we go.
No need to make them our earthly perdition.
Through these challenges our consciousness grows.

For what purpose have we, if not to be tested.
The challenge to overcome our circumstance.
It's in Stoic philosophy, that I have invested.
Increasing my odds in life's grand game of chance.

For me, I believe, the ancient Stoics had it right.
With their pursuit of the virtuous existence.
On wisdom, courage, justice, and temperance, set your sights.
It will serve you well as you face life's resistance.

Limit your thinking to that which you can control.
And if it's negative avoid its touch.
Focus not on life's events, but your response, that's the goal.
Staying mindful of your next choice, as such.

Resentment and regret have no place in this world.
For what's come to pass cannot be undone.
It's only in the present that we can face what's unfurled.
The dawn of a new day has begun.

Contentment requires maintaining perspective.
Practicing patience, humility, tolerance, and gratitude.
Adopting these traits can be quite effective.
And helps one begin each day with the right attitude.

Of course, it's much easier to say than to do.
It's not easy managing one's thoughts.
The secret is letting them float right on through.
And not letting them tie your mind up in knots.

Lastly, I seek counsel from the good Lord above.
Finding comfort that His grace travels with thee.
For when you walk through life with faith, hope, and love.
You'll always end up where you're supposed to be.

Modern Healthcare

Let us all take a look now at what's called modern healthcare.

How we battle our ailments with today's medical warfare.

No longer are our methods so primitive and arcane.

No more leeches or alchemy to relieve us of pain.

Advances in technology and science are so pervasive.

It's made cures for disease and illness much less evasive.

Limits in the art of medicine no longer restrict us.

There are numerous diseases that no longer afflict us.

We've learned so much, new diagnoses crop up each day.

"Oh, something's bothering you? No need to live that way."

"I think they can treat that condition now with a brand-new med.

Was it online or in Cosmo that had the article I read?"

All these advances have led us to a cultural shift.

Causation and natural remedies have gotten short shrift.

"Just treat my symptoms and get rid of my pain.

I don't care what it is, no need to explain."

We've gotten so used to our carefree existence.

We always take the path of least resistance!

So, if taking some meds can mask our distress,

Why not give in and ameliorate our stress?

Medicine is no longer for just when your ill.

Feeling anxious, a bad mood? "Oh, just take this pill."

"Doctor if this tablet can relieve my despair,

then just give me a script and I'll get out of your hair!"

"They must be safe; my physician gave me the Rx.

Certainly, he'd let me know of any adverse effects."

"Hey what's all this paperwork I got from the pharmacy?"

"Just CYA gobbledygook, they enclose as a courtesy."

What's happened to thinking through problems and learning to deal?

Understanding our emotions, experiencing what we feel.

Do we no longer have time for developing such skills?

Must we always succumb to some cocktail of pills?

Is it really better living through chemistry, as they say?

Or are we just numbing our minds, a form of avoidance at play!

Short term results may be all well and good.

But are the long-term costs of these choices understood?

I fear for the future and what we will find.

Long term consequences may not be so kind.

It's a new era of medicine in which we are playing.

And the early returns appear quite dismaying.

Issues of dependence, and withdrawal, "Oh my, who knew?"

Horrendous tales and studies of more than just a few.

Clinicians are presented with new cases each day.

"It can't be the meds." they state in their self-effacing way.

No, I believe this problem will only get worse.

What's a miracle one day, the next day a curse.

So, let us all take a look at our delivery system.

And let's slow that look down to the speed of our own wisdom!

Be Still

Sometimes you have no strength left to swing your arms to fight

You don’t have to… just be still

This will turn out the way it’s supposed to no matter what you do, so…

Just be still

Stop your worries when they come whispering in your ear to do something quick

Don’t move a muscle… just be still

We might find that being still IS doing something, it’s you not becoming overwhelmed

Enjoy being still

Take in the calmness and the lack of motion  to gather yourself in the way a little child hugs her favorite blanket at night

Stay grounded and just be still

When it is time to move, you will know when to take action and how but for now…

Just be still… just be still

About This Little Pill

The Benzo Snare

I've always been considered a wee bit too high-strung.

To say I'm the anxious sort wouldn't be too far-flung.

I'm uptight about the weather. And crowds really stress me out.

And family get togethers, I'd much rather do without.

Some would say I'm overly cautious. I'm a nervous wreck in traffic.

Driving can make me nauseous, not to be too graphic.

I do best when left alone, meeting strangers makes me queasy.

Always fearful of the unknown. Life is anything but easy.

So, I decided to see my physician. His name is Doctor Bill.

He said, "I'm familiar with your condition. Here, take this little pill."

"It will help you to calm down. It will help you to relax."

"It will prevent a nervous breakdown and stop your jitters in their tracks!"

I said, 'Thank you Doctor Bill and thank you for these little pills.

I will take them as prescribed and trust they cure me of my ills."

A week or so later I observed, I was feeling rather chill.

I was no longer so unnerved, Dr. Bill was right about his pill.

I was feeling far less concerned and all was fine for a little spell.

Then all my anxiety returned and I found myself in Hell!

I was afraid to go outside. I was afraid to take a shower.

More than a mere backslide, my fears tripled by the hour.

My life had turned upside down, I no longer knew what was real.

I was having a complete meltdown. My existence became surreal.

Constant ringing in my ears and my skin felt as if on fire.

I soon found myself in tears. Oh my, things are getting a little dire.

Of course, I called Dr. Bill to tell him what was happening.

"Are you sure it's not the pill? This situation has become quite maddening!"

He said, "Of course not." as he chuckled, "The pills worked just fine before."

Seeming not the least bit befuddled, he said. "You just need to take a little more!"

As directed by Dr. Bill, I took more of his little pills.

But they no longer helped me chill. They no longer cured me of my ills.

I'm no longer quite so certain about good ol' Doctor Bill.

It may be time to pull the curtain on the doctor and his pill.

He told me not to worry. That there is nothing physically wrong with me.

"Again, these pills?" I queried.  He scoffed, "There's no way. That just can't be!"

He questioned my veracity. "I see no reason why your concerned."

"So, you think that I am crazy!” I stated, feeling somewhat spurned.

Well to hell with these little pills and to hell with Dr. Bill.

I’m no longer sure about his skills and his scripts I'll not refill.

I won't take his pill each morning nor will I take his pill at night.

And I'll issue this fair warning, these pills will fill your mind with fright!

I don’t know what these pills contain but they are driving me insane.

They no longer relieve my pain so I will flush them down the drain.

Each day is its own nightmare and I don't know what to do.

I'm not making this up, I swear, and If you think so then screw you!

I soon found useful information. All from research I'd done online.

Countless others across the nation who nerves were all maligned.

Just like me they had suffered after taking those little pills.

And like me they soon discovered the pills caused all their ills.

I found some websites that explained what was happening to my brain.

My neurochemistry was disarranged and that was causing all my pain.

I was experiencing withdrawal and that had me climbing the wall.

I could literally feel my skin crawl. I can't live like this at all.

I learned there's no magical elixir. No cure-all I could take.

This problem had no quick fixer. Of that make no mistake.

A new physician I have found who knows all about these little pills.

With a recovery background, he seems to have the requisite skills.

He's got me on a liquid taper so my symptoms aren't so severe.

I no longer get the vapors and I'm dealing better with all my fear.

There is no simple symptom reliever and I'm still feeling pretty wired.

I'm learning time is nature's healer, and much patience will be required.

I’ve also begun psychotherapy to deal with my anxieties.

But there will be no more pills for me. I’m using other strategies.

Through therapy I'm learning to cope. I'm learning to let things be.

Building resilience gives me hope and tempers my misery.

I'm far from this journey's end and there is rough terrain ahead.

But I sense peace around the bend and a lift to all this dread.

My story is a cautionary tale that I felt compelled to share.

In hopes my testimony will curtail, others getting caught in the Benzo Snare!

Twinship

Is today one of those days when you're all worn out and blue?

Convinced you cannot find your way?

We all have those times when it seems there’s nothing we can do.

Yet we manage to make it through the day.

For whatever reason, your path has led you to this website.

Learning from the experiences of others.

The accounts of fellow travelers provide much needed insight.

And connect you with newfound sisters and brothers.

A unique gathering of survivors are we.

Enduring an existence, we wouldn't wish on anyone.

Traveling together on this road of recovery.

A shared journey, our trials binding us as one.

Knowing we are not alone renders welcome affirmation.

Sustaining each other with mutual acknowledgement.

Through twinship we can find support and inspiration.

     Kindred spirits providing needed encouragement.

How fortunate we are to learn of each other's plight.

As we negotiate the hazards in our own slog.

The healing of others becoming a beacon of light.

To help us navigate our way through the fog.

You’re a part of a growing community.

All warriors in combat with their own mind.

Offering you their empathy and credulity.

To invigorate you for the daily grind.

From many who have already been through this,

You will learn their stories of success.

How they all made their way back from the abyss.

Reassurance to help offset your distress.

Each day we reckon with the truth and understanding.

It's the passing of time that's ultimately our cure.

This perspective doesn't make life any less demanding.

But it builds resilience that will help us endure.

It's amazing when challenged and put to the test.

We persevere, never willing to concede.

For it's adversity and hardship that often brings out our best.

Enabling survival in our hour of need.

Today your online sojourn has brought you here.

Searching for a message that would assuage.

Seeking comfort and counsel to help temper your fear.

As you scroll through the words on this page.

I hope you have found a little solace in these rhymes.

A brief respite from your torment and strife.

And a reminder that when it's the darkest of times,

You're gonna' make it; up ahead awaits your best life!

So goes each day for those of us in withdrawal.

As the relentless struggle goes on.

Constantly trying to make sense of it all.

Grateful we have each other to lean upon.

Well done Blue! That’s a beautiful welcoming poem for newcomers. Thank you!
Big hugs to you, Begood, 2cats, Nova, Mowgli and all who visit this thread. Sending love and hugs ❤️🤗

As the Day Dawns

A wise man said “ it’s not how fast you arrived from your journey, but, it’s that you arrived!”
This means that after all of your tears, struggles, pain and hardships, you survived!
You wanted to lay down and give up when you couldn’t see how you’d make it through one more hour.

But you didn’t so your reward is now standing tall with a fighting stance armed with power.

As the day dawns you bask in the colorful display around you as you take in a cleansing breath of a winner.
Although you might have a little more ways to go, you are now confident yet not as a beginner.
You find what you need inside to travel the road that is less taken.

For it is a rough journey in that there’s no mistaken.

But you hold on with all your might for you will be that winner that really won.

When you stand in the light at the end of today, shining in your wholeness as the day dawns.

Life You Live

The way you walk and the way you talk

People will form an opinion

The way you dress and handle your stress

People see what’s beyond

Someone is watching how you live your life

Not necessarily just to judge

But they may be in need of motivation

Perhaps even just a nudge

So that, they can mirror how you endure

And realize they can take it

Therefore, display a good solid example

Even if you have to fake it

Oftentimes, we don’t know how we made it out

For certain we had nothing to give

We ourselves may have just breathe through

With just a strong will to live

When someone says “ you’re strong and your my inspiration “

It’s not so very light

Grab their hand with a supportive squeeze

Let them know all is alright

The life you live is really what you preach

Even if you were unaware

So, stand up tall to model your inner strength

And show others how to get there
