Hi Margarita,

We haven't talked for a long time but I have popped in tonight and thought I would say hello. I'm now nearly 4 years benzo free....I've also tapered off mirtazapine and have almost finished tapering off sam-e (will be done by the end of Jan). I am not healed, but gosh I am close. I am living a full and rich life and pretty much doing everything I want and need to do. It is still hard some time but no where close to how hard it was! Hopefully soon I will post a success story and give hope to those in protracted withdrawal.

Its so good to hear from you, I am so pleased your doing so much better and finished your Mirtazapine taper, well done girl!!  Not sure when you finished your Mirtz taper, but it does take a while to settle down after that. 

 

I often think of you, thank you for writing its made my day knowing how much better your doing.

Hi Magrita,

 

I'm really looking for hope and feel hopeless.  Through doctors' ignorance, I rapid tapered and cold turkeyed a benzo AND an antidepressant at the same time almost four months ago, because I was told it was okay and that I had been on "baby doses."

 

Now I am physically disabled.  Can't swallow, can't walk.  Jerk severely.  Body contorts from muscle rigidity.

 

Your story is great, but you benefitted from a slow taper.  I feel effed, but on the other hand, I am grateful that I didn't die when I went off the "meds."

I am sorry for what happened to you, benzo withdrawal is an awful thing to go through. I tapered off mirtazapine, that was dreadful. I can well imagine coming off both meds together must have been very bad.  Try not to look back, get rid of the anger because it eats you up.  I was angry too at what happened to me,  I had to let it go because it was holding me back.

 

Just remember no matter how bad you feel right now...its not forever, its temporary.  Keep trying to distract, try not to look at the bigger picture and do what you can to get to the next hour...or moment if need be!!

 

Its going to be ok I promise you...so just hang in for now until it changes, it will get better with time.

Dear Debbie, Duckie, Claudia, PG, Flip willdoit, Dolphins, thank you for your birthday wishes, it means a lot to me.  I had a great day yesterday, plenty of laughs.

 

I am thankful I can laugh again, I remember my face would ache with the fake smile in withdrawal.  What an amazing feeling, to just laugh out loud….these are things we take for granted.  I knew the moment that happened for me, I was going to fully heal!

 

It’s definitely like being given a second chance at life...but seeing everything different this time around. Priorities’ change, I know what’s important today.  What used to screw me up doesn't even touch me, what people think of me doesn’t matter like it did before.  This journey makes you a little tougher that's for sure, not in a bad way.

 

Simple things bring me joy, a walk in the park...a park I have known many years, yet it was new to me in recovery.  It looked stunningly beautiful!!.  I will never forget that feeling, the first day seeing things with new eyes.

 

Life after withdrawal is good, it definitely makes you feel gratitude for things that you used to take for granted.  Anyway, you will see it for yourself when you get there.

 

Don’t give up no matter how hard it gets
