Why the negative overtones regarding the Peterson’s? They suffer from mental illness and took drugs like the rest of us here on this forum to address the issues. Separate the politics from the man. He’s just another person who is being damaged by these drugs.

It’s because some people are radical ideologues who can’t pass up a chance to kick the “enemy” when they are down. Very telling of their character.

He supports these drugs because he suffers from severe depression and anxiety. What if therapy and yoga and everything else doesn’t work then you take the drugs. We were all supporters of drugs until they backfired on us. I avoided drugs for years and nothing natural really worked so I suffered and finally gave in to drugs and now I’m suffering much more. I guess what I’m trying to say is that Peterson is one of us now trying to get out of this hole we ended up in.

The irony is that he DID find a cure for his lifelong depression in the form of his diet, yet there are people here criticizing him for what he eats.

Sometimes I feel like I am living in the twilight zone.

He has also said that the ADs are a cure for some depression. (He isn't the Dr prescribing after all) He is/was very enthusisastic about that too. I'm not confident about his self reporting about depression or the results from any method, any more than I am about myself right now for instance. I am in this now and he is too. He is going to have his beliefs challenged.

Certainly the anx and dep in his life are not going to be distinguishable as to cause for a while now. If the meat was effective while he was on the benzos, it may become haywire now. More beliefs challenged.

It probably isn't meat as much as it is a lack of other things such as sugar, wheat, and even vegetables.

There is a ton of information out there about how plants probably aren't as good for us as they are made out to be, and on the opposite end of the spectrum can possibly be flat out making people sick. Of course we have been brainwashed into believing that only the plant heavy diets that are sanctioned by the government and health organizations are good for us but there is whole other world of information out there that shows that these so called healthy diets are likely responsible for our current epidemic of heart disease, diabetes and even things like depression.

I have posted quite a bit about this in the past but JP and MP aren't the only ones who are having success at treating autoimmune and mental issues by eliminating certain foods. There is a lot of interest in intermittent fasting and carnivore diets and we are even starting to see keto products on the shelves of walmart so this isn't something that is going away any time soon and I would highly recommend everyone here look into it with an open mind.

That was an interesting Youtube video, but it brought up a couple questions for me:

1. Did JP actually want this issue to be public, or did his daughter go ahead and make it public without his consent?

2. Why is this guy referring to JP as if he's American when he's Canadian? JP could have accessed provincially-covered medical help right here in Canada, but for whatever reason, he chose to pay for services in NY. I do understand, though, that the host wanted to make a point about such things not being available to all.

Who knows?

As I've stated before, the Peterson family appears to have many problems, not just the benzo issue.

Did JP go on the "Lion Diet" believing it would "heal" him? Did he do it for another reason like, pressure from his daughter or for monetary gain?

Re: seeking health care in Canada, I understand he didn't part ways with the University of Toronto on friendly terms and I believe there are several still pending lawsuits there and with former associates.

Hi Fi,

Can you provide links about this parting of ways between JP and the University of Toronto? I couldn't find anything on it.

It appears there are recent "Rate My Professor" reviews of him as well:

I also found this CBC headline from earlier this year:

"Cambridge University withdraws fellowship it offered to Jordan Peterson"

Fi, I just asked for a link because I wasn't able to find anything. There was no malice in my request. I was asking for your help. No need to be unpleasant about it.

I'll see what I can find.

Thanks anyway.

Okay, I see, Fi. Thanks. I still couldn't find anything to corroborate the idea that JP is no longer associated with the University of Toronto. These listings seem to show that he's still there.

Bottom line, though, is that, as a Canadian, he has access to provincially-funded health care right here at home. And he has lots of money to purchase extra care, should he need it (e.g. for-profit treatment centres). I'm still curious as to why he chose to go to that place in NY to get help for this problem. I hope he's getting the help he needs there. I'm interested to follow this story, and I hope that there will be more information forthcoming.

He probably chose it out of ignorance at how medicine works. I think sick people think if they can just find the right doctor and pay enough money, they will find someone who can get them out of their current situation. But they are not going to know anything in New York that they don't know in Toronto. Sunnybrook hospital is about 15 minutes from U of T, and they have some academic doctors there with H-indexes in the Nobel Prize range (ie David Juurlink). They all have access to the exact same academic literature. He will get similar advice from both places, but in New York they might try some fancy psych drug combinations and mess things up even more (to be fair, they might do that in Toronto too).

It will most definitely be interesting. I think he already has quite a bit of damage from taking antidepressants for a couple decades, so he could be out of commission for awhile. I really hope he regains his full faculties and comes to a complete understanding of what has happened to him.

I really wasn't aware of him, although reading a bit, I had seen him mentioned here or there.  Did not know he was so well known.

Anyone known what AD(s) he may have taken?

I'm just curious what his med combo may be.

Yes so many of us hope the right doctor is out there who can help...

I think he went on the lion diet because he truly believes in it. Autoimmune diets are tough but they do work. This would be the most extreme but if it helped his daughter it would make sense it could work for him since autoimmune disease has a genetic component. I also don’t believe that going into benzo withdrawal or dealing with a traumatic life situation disproves this at all. Therefore, I have to agree with FloridaGuy here in questioning the relevance here.

How/why do autoimmune diets work?  Pls can you summarize, am not up to lots of links now-- been a terrible week.

Interested to know more, tho.

Yes, you're right, DG. And there's the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), which is a five-minute walk from the U.of T. campus, plus Toronto General Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, St. Michael's Hospital and Women's College Hospital that are within 10 minutes of the campus.

I thought he might be looking for privacy and anonymity in NY, but if his daughter put everything up on Youtube, then then privacy likely wasn't an issue.

It might just be where he feels more safe. Half of Americans love him and half of Americans think he is a Nazi who deserves to be punished. What percentage of Canadians love/hate him? I know the culture here but not there. But I can tell you this. I am an American conservative and when I was in the hospital being taken off of Xanax I wanted to get out. I quickly realized it was a mistake to check in there. My wife brought me a bunch of books to read. I hid the right wing conservative books from the doctors when they would come to sit with me. I did so because that field is almost 100 percent left wing and in the US there is a growing consensus among the political left that conservative views are a sign of mental illness. They espouse these views openly  on the morning and evening news. If I were him I would be very cautious about who I put my life and mind in the hands of. The media has made him out to be evil and there are many who believe that his views alone are a sign of illness. If I were him I would be very cautious who I went to for help. I am sure he will tell us why he made this decision when the time comes. He is very open about things.

Of course it hasn't been properly studied but the gist of it is that certain foods are making people sick and you can eliminate symptoms by cutting out the right foods. In the case of keto/carnivore they speculate that the anti-nutrients and oxalates in plants cause a lot of problems for some people.

Inflammation is another thing that is believed to be a problem. Avoiding sugar, vegetable oils and refined carbohydrates seems to helps with that. There is also an argument for avoiding dairy.

I will have to give it a few more months to know for sure but the keto diet seems to have eliminated my eczema, which is an autoimmune issue. It usually flares up in the spring and fall when the weather starts to change so if it doesn't show up in the next month or so I know that the diet is what is preventing it.

I am an American liberal/progressive and I am worried about authoriarianism coming from the right. It seems to be opening us up to corruption that will be hard to turn back. I don't want to be "owned," or gaslighted. I've had that all my life. It's the reason I'm here in the first place.

Funny. Authoritarianism is exactly what he fights against.

You mean when he talks about "Cultural Marxism"?

If someone can explain what "cultural marxism" is, and why it's the big problem for me, I'm all ears.  I'm a simple sensate american and I will have no problem voting "socialist" or leftwards, if they are on the ballot.

Don’t put words in my mouth. Research cultural Marxism on your own time. I said nothing regarding it. But since you seem interested, I’m talking about the government compelling speech under penalty of law for noncompliance. That’s leftist authoritarianism. I do not identify with any political party or movement. I’m glad you’ve found an ideology that works for you.

Is it about pronouns used for the transgendered? Jordan Peterson calls the thing you are talking about "Cultural Marxism." If I was to have a discussion with someone like you about it, I would need to know what he was talking about.

I don't feel endangered by leftist authoritarianism. We have some real issues with stuff right now. Tell you what...

Lets deal wtih one ism at a time and make it the one who is actually in power. Lets impeach the socialist president when he gets into office OK?

Drad dog,

No one has a problem with authoritarianism when the authoritarian is enforcing their views. The problem is once you open the door to authoritarianism it can not be closed. One day the theoretical current authoritarian with be replaced by one who espouses views different from yours and that is when your rights will be trampled. But it will be too late because you voted for the trampling of your rights back when you voted for authoritarianism because it was convenient at the time. You should be against right wing authoritarianism as am I as a right winger. Because any power I support when my side is in power will be the same power that my opposing party will have when it is their turn to take power. If I support the right taking away your rights today then I am supporting the left taking away my rights in the future.
