I don't know why this song is attributed only to Phil Collins. Of course he wrote it and did a great job singing it. But it also features the most beautiful guitar solo by Eric Clapton. And I chiefly like it cause of this riff. Posting here to recompense Shook for... he knows what. I really appreciate a well-thought black humor in the style of Woody Allen & the Coen Bros. They're kind of funny.

Estée,

I'm glad you're here, and appreciate the thought behind the song and everything you post.  :smitten:

BG,

I'll always associate the piano movement of 'Layla' with mobsters and their wives being rubbed out in Scorsese's 'Goodfellas'...

Never saw that trailer. But I did like that movie. I just saw the very last movie that Martin Scorsese directed. It's called Silence and it was so great it will turn out to be a classic. If you are religious, it really makes you think. I saw Clapton many times in concert. He was always drinking........I think be played better that way.

This may not make you want to bust a move, but I really like MTV's Unplugged series. This is Clapton at his best. Layla.

Yeah, Bets. "Layla" is one of the most popular Clapton's songs. Not my fav guitar solo, however. I'm not that much into Clapton. Though he's certainly perfect on the technical level. Neither I'm a big fan of the MTV unplugged series. I prefer the sound of an electric guitar. Enhanced by an amp.

As far as I know, "Layla" was inspired by Clapton's infatution with Patti Boyd, George Harrison's wife. Anyway, she turned him down.

How come you saw Clapton drunk at concerts? As far as I know, he's been sober for three decades. His another attempt at sobriety, in 1987, was finally successful. When his son was born. Conor died tragically at 4 yrs old  I think Clapton owes a lot to the AA Program. He struggled with heroin, cocaine, pills and alcohol addiction. I suppose it already started when he was playing with "Cream". Anyway, he got sober. Which is very inspirational to me. He co-founded the Crossroads Addiction Centre in 1998.

Well, this one is actually an acoustic song. Not to bust a move either, Shook. Sorry. I'm not even in the mood. Lost many friends to heroin. They were young and beautiful. Will never forget them.

Neil Young sings about his friend from the Crazy Horse, Danny Whitten. He tried to play rhythm guitar in the band, but his heroin addiction got in the way. He screwed up every session. Neil had to fire him from the band on Nov.18, 1972. The same night, Danny ODed at the age of 29. And yes, Valium and alcohol were involved. Am posting the song without a vid. It doesn't need it. Just the music and lyrics.

Songfacts

There's no more baffling, cunning and poweful enemy than addiction. How well I understand it now. The fight against it is the fight for survival. Some don't realize it. They trust the substance as their only friend. And it takes everything from them. Including life.

Thank you, Shook. Great avatar  I like to post songs & pix to those music threads. Don't know why this sad song came to my mind. Was writing about Clapton's recovery. Some ppl just cannot get out of it. Addiction. Until it finally kills them.

I thought you might like "Nyanko-sensei". Minya is yet to come...  :)

Kill The Pain - INXS

Wonderful tune, Shook. Yeah, let's kill the pain. No better way than by an absurd humor.

What have we got left, BTW. Can't feel any effects of my "Fuckitol" AD. Except the sxs.

Nyanko-Sensei totally rocks. Love calicos.

私はすべての猫を愛しています。Minyaを待っている。

いい金曜日を過ごしてください。ここは朝です。

How about some Pogo dance on Friday. Here's a great bass riff by Mike Dirnt of Green Day.

Here comes Friday. Awesomeness.

Yeah, it's difficult to be away from your loved one. But we must believe that one day.

All our problems will magically disappear and all the broken hearts shall be mended...

P.S. I'm actually selling my pix, Shook. That's why I cannot post them here.

Estée,

I admittedly had to look up a couple of the kanji, but thanks for the message and for wishing me a good Friday. Here's a cure... Just adopt a f***-it-all attitude. It has an instant calming effect.

It really cracked me up how Robert Smith himself hated the song afterwards and all the attention it got. Well, lol, he

"betrayed his principles" by actually going there and writing a really really good, bouncy, upbeat pop song. It must have been an off day for him

Then there's the hit song Michael Stipe isn't so hot on...

But anything for the kids...

I saw him in me teens. He had a case of beer onstage. I was amazed he did not have to go to the bathroom. I like both types of guitar. Yes Pattie Boyd then married him of course, only to divorce him after he had two kids from affairs. I think one was with an Italian TV personality. Yes, poor Conor. I think he was at Clapton's son's mom's house when it happened. In NY. I always felt very sorry for Pattie. Someone told me that she has the most songs written by others to herself. AA is good if you follow the program. I think before he had such a major drinking problem and a heroin problem, I am surprised he is not dead. Oh I do love Unplugged. lol.

Damn it, Shook. I was about to post this stuff in the morning. Love the song. Must be telepathy. "Welcome to Telepathics Anonymous. Don't bother introducing yourself." [bauvard]

Whoa, I guess Fuckitol AD definitely stopped working. Could as well be popping a placebo. Let's switch to another AD.

Am about to download this stuff from Audible: "The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life" by Mark Manson

素敵な夜をお過ごしください!

Here's one cool song for Friday evening. Night, in my case.

Lyrics

Yeah, it was featured in several commercials. Let's not think about it, okay

That must have been before 1987. My husband has a wonderful habit of calling all women older than him: "stara dupa". How very nice and courteous of him. He's got that unique sense of humor. Especially that he looks 10 yrs older, being 5 yrs younger than me. And he considers most women fat. Except me, how blessed I am. I had an ED well before him, anyway.

Oh well, forgot we have an expert on The Beatles' private life on the forum. I don't know what women see in these rockstars. Playing guitar is just a technical skill and a bit of talent. Fame? Fame sucks. Money? Better to sweep the streets than sell one's ass for money, IMO.

Anyway, Clapton is not especially handsome, if you ask me. He's a cool great guitar player. That's all. And I still believe he's sober. That's much more. Cried my eyes out over Danny Whitten and Sid Vicious. When those music threads made me remember them, TYVM.

Yeah, acoustic versions are sometimes fine. Maybe I'm not that much into Clapton's music.
