Can't believe I snowshoed for 10 whole minutes today. Spring Fever hit me harder than benzo w/d sxs! Saw deer, hare and fox tracks in the snow and plenty of sunshine. Wiped me out, but soooo worth it ;D

Welcome Jim! Lets just say past I'm...well...past 50 and struggling to keep going physically, but this group is inspiring and supportive so it's a great thread to follow. Some are able to do what I consider pretty heavy duty workouts on a regular basis, but some, like me, are happy to get in a few minutes of light exercise — and sometimes I need a day or two to rest up from that.

MTfan - EMPOWERED by exercise...you put that so well!

Wow Mo! That's a great shot. You look like your in great shape   Keep up the good work.

Hi all...this a post from my blog.  After a okay morning all hell tried breaking loose.  I just finished a two mile walk in a state of total DR. One foot in front of the other. Very scary but I've had it before and it lessens w distraction. Keep up the good work.

.I am in a mother of all waves(5-6 weeks)  and i just got hit with a surge of fear and everything else about two hours ago.  I am not reacting to it more than being very very uncomfortable.  I remember the last window I had and I was nothing like this. I keep going there today to say this is not who I am and it has been effective.  My brain is trying to make me push up the panic but I am so far keeping it at bay.  I just keep telling myself that this is the symptom of healing and if my body is sweating, jumpy, dizzy, trying to tell me I am dying, need to l flee, and anxiety ridden this is what is meant to be right now.  it will subside in intensity as it aways does.  This is so hard but I am trying to be the passenger.  I see my therapist tomorrow to check in on CBT.  In these cases nothig really helps exept the storm petering itself out as it always does.  He is convinced I can control it with enough work but I think it is just time although the skills he teaches will help me in life.  I am actually proud of myself as it got up to major panic several times and I just let it subside.  it is a mega storm of chemicals doing what they are doing.

I did meditate for about 40 min and while doing that I felt a bit better but I had to return to work.  I also think working this whole time had its benfits and minuses.  None of us will ever know if it hurts or hinders in the long run.  It is what it is....my new mantra for the week.

I seem to be channeling Baylissa which ain't a bad thing :laugh:

You have the right idea Drew

I have done something similar to CBT and some mediation and yes it helps! I wish I had time do do more. These Benzo's are powerful so I can only expect so much from my coping skills. Acceptance, tolerance and riding the waves till it passes is the best I can do.

Welcome Jim  :)

I did it again. I went out for a walk with the dog and I ran a little because it was cold and I was feeling good. Then I stopped and just walked. I wasn't out long. Then I realized I was hungry and I get low blood sugar so I went home and had some plain yogurt mixed with peanut butter. Then I passed out again and woke up feeling awful

Is it what I eat that makes me feel so terrible? I'm staying away fro sugar/carbs and I'm a finicky eater. When I'm hungry I can't fix something that's going to take a lot of prepping.

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this and help me out.

However I'm still glad I went out ;D On a good note it was a beautiful walk near the river. I will keep it up no matter what the price  :).

I cut .5 last Sat. and I'm feeling okay. 9.5 is better then 10. I hope this improvement keeps up.

Hi VG,

I wasn't very hungry tonight so I just had a salad with avocado's on it, very light for a dinner.

Speaking of yogurt I try to stay away from dairy but I was scrounging in the fridge & one of my kids left a half eaten pint of

Ben & Jerry's frozen yogurt.....needless to say it's completely devoured & I feel like crap now.  My sinuses are plugged & I

feel disgusted.

I know better but I couldn't help myself, this sucks!  :tickedoff:

I wish I could help you with suggestions on what to eat, but I am pretty simple.  I buy steak burgers from Costco & keep them in

the freezer & in a pinch I will nuke one & throw avocado's on it or guacamole & some salsa.

I'm sure the improvement will continue

Hi Drew and all,

I exercise 5 days a week for 30 minutes doing weights and cardio. I also try and hike or go for a walk 2-3 times a week but I've been slacking on those the last few weeks and I really miss it. I credit exercise with helping me with my depression and I just feel better overall from doing it. Jenny

Hi Drew - Sorry to hear you are having a tough time of it  :(, but it sounds like you are handling it really well with a great attitude  I think meditating is really helpful and I'm glad you are doing it and that it helps. I realize you can't meditate at work, but here is a link to a short, (~15 mins.) meditation on you tube that I practice every day and I swear somehow it "got into" my brain and body (sort of like bio-feedback, I guess) and I can "use" it while I am anywhere — standing in line at the grocery, in a staff meeting or while doing the dishes while having a surge. If you feel like it, give it a try. It only took me about 5 days of practice with this one before I could "use" it when I needed it. Hope you feel better soon!

Hi all,   Drew  Hi Jim and all the other born again teenagers  ;) I'm, 55 so we're not a minority on here but hey!!  age is but a number thats assigned to us :) Well I never got out today, not from lack of wanting to but my delivery guy was really late today and I got past being able to go out walking.  ::)

But thats okay as I got plenty of exercise catching up on house work I needed to do so I've been active most of the day which is brilliant!!  :socool:  Considering up until Sunday I've been unable to do FA  for a few months except for the basics like eat drink, bed, get up, lay down, sit down, moan, usual stuff. So I am well happy and pleased and grateful to have been given the strength to push on, and all the walking up and down and movement involved constitutes a good work out at this place in time.  :boxer:

Definitely when  compared to being stuck static and unable to do anything that involved movement for more than the odd few minutes. Hopefully there won't be any hitches or glitches tomorrow and i can go out for a walk then and do 15 to 20 minutes of Kiddo style exercise  ;D

Hello everyone and thank you for the kind and warm welcome. MTfan, you're a little further north than I am I think, as our snow is now gone. We even got rain last night when they had predicted snow for us here.

I made it to the gym this morning and am now feeling quite a bit better. My wake up was awful and full of anxiety and worry. Almost to a point of having to wake someone up and talk to them on the phone. But I managed by pacing the floors for a while. It then resides after a couple hours to where I'm able to push through it. I'm still not to chatty, but at least I'm not overwhelmed with fear. Something else that has dwindled are the helpless, hopeless feelings. Still having trouble with keeping myself motivated and my mind wanders unbelievably all the time.

Hope everyone has a nice day

Yeah, Fran the research on neuroplasticity and neurogenesis are exciting. That gives us every reason to hope that our brains will heal. Exercise is the big winner in those studies as well as meditation.

MTFAN-you will heal everyone heals in time.

I noticed when I lift weights while I am having a wave the wave abates. It's got to be related.

Hey Lakeside, at least you made it to the gym . My mornings are the worst. I did another really stupid thing and drank coffee last night to kick a sugar craving and laid in bed till about 5 or 6am with racing and anxious thoughts. These Benzo's can really mess with our emotions. I'm not sure what is real or not anymore.

VG - On the menu tonight was stewed beef in a crockpot & halved brussell sprouts that were baked with garlic & olive oil & celtic salt for seasoning

I didn't have time to go to the mountain today so I just rode my mountain bike on the street & did 5 miles

I don't know if anyone else has issues with their eyes being sensitive to bright lights? I was wearing my Oakley polarized sunglasses

and when I was done I was seeing spots in my eyes.  My eyes have been the biggest issue with my tapering & just wondering if

anyone else has eye issues?

Have a great evening everyone  :smitten:

My eye problems are huge. Bright lights or even brake lights on my commute bother me. I find my sunglasses aren't always adequate either.  I also feel like I have a constant eye strain in a wave which disappears in window.

Lastly, I wear glasses but I find I have to keep taking them off and on during a wave. Shall I go on?  :D

Thank you for your response, I have hardly been able to wear sunglasses at all since this whole thing began.  I have always worn

Oakleys for driving & riding bikes but I find that my vision is distorted when I wear the sunglasses & is better when I take them off.

I wear readers when I sit at my computer but my distance is near perfect.  I have had 3 different eye specialists tell me they find

nothing wrong with my eyes when clearly, no pun intended there is something happening with them.

I appreciate you telling me this!

Did arm and leg exercises with 1 lb of weight on each arm and each leg while sitting/laying down — about 7 minutes.

Drew & VG - Everything for me is too bright, too loud and sometimes blurry. Plus, my perception is way off; I reach for something and don't actually make contact because it's father away than I thought — or I make contact with the wall or doorway because it's closer than I thought!

VG - I also have to stay away from MSG, soy sauce and other excitotoxins even before benzo w/d because they can initiate a seizure or migraine for me and if I accidentally ingest some while in benzo w/d, I really feel the effects. Excitotoxins are in MANY foods so they can be difficult to steer cleaf of. I also have had some success with feeling better by trying to limit not only sugar and caffeine, but histamines in foods as well.

YES MT and AF - I really like to hear about things like exercise helping retain and improve brain function!

Ninja - someone posted a whole thread (someplace on BBs...) that explained WHY vision is such a problem for so many of us, but it I can't find it...I just know it IS an issue. I have also read and heard about people in benzo w/d who have their glasses prescriptions changed during w/d only to find that months after they have been off the benzos their eyesight improves again!

Good Morning everyone. My husband is a doctor and I spoke to his friend yesterday who is a neurologist. I'm beginning to think they know more about the healing process than a Pdoc. His suggestions are eating healthy and lots of exercise (if you can), at least 4 days a week. He feels that exercise will regenerate GABA. He also commented if you are eating healthy you don't have to take a lot of vitamins. He said Vitamins are only supplements and you can get most of your vitamins through proper nutrition. He does believe in Vitamin D if you are low in it and do not go in the sun.

Ninj - count me in for eye problems.....this has been a constant companion for me. I've been to two eye doctors and both say everything is fine. Not sure how that's possible when I have constant blurry vision and everything is too bright. I also have dry, scratchy eyes. They feel tired, they're often glassy and they water constantly. Just another day in paradise

I didn't exercise yesterday "kiddo style" so am going to try and double up today....in a gentle way.

Kiddo,

That is exactly what my eyes are like, absolutely! I am constantly using systan eye drops, the best I have found are the ones that are individualy packaged & are preservative free.  I buy them

from Walmart, the eye doctors all said that is the best for them.  It's gotta be the preservative free ones.

Good luck with your exercise Kiddo, it makes a huge difference in my day to day mental happiness.
