Yesterday was great

Today is not

Somehow

I must remember

That even before

That is how it always was

And will always be

Yes the ups and downs of this is a cruel emotional game. But the winner is always us! So yes, remember that!

                  A Shred of Light

Light shines brighter when it’s been the darkest of days

When you think you’ll never see it again, it appears

Maybe just a glimpse or just for a short while

But it’s just enough to keep you going through the years

Honestly you don’t need a huge spotlight shining about

It’s feels that way because it’s been dark for so long

Just a flicker will do just fine and it will glow brighter

You hang on, dear tired one, the light will become strong

Let go of the lost yesterdays for they are gone

They’ve done their job of getting you to tomorrow

Cry if you must but let it only be very briefly

For nothing ever turns out well if you wallow in sorrow

Things are not too bad that you can’t get through today

Yes it’s hard but you can make it regardless of the pain

Don’t you know what you have inside is a shred of light

It gets blown on sometimes but yet it still remain

And with that shred amazing defeats will add up

It will become clear the value of what you’ve got

When you find yourself surviving day after day

Whether your amount of healing is obvious to you or not

Just keep going, dear tired one, don’t be too tired yet

There’s more healing to do and you’ll need all your might

But don’t worry about how dark it looks or seems

For you possess exactly what you need with just a shred of light

"It's just enough to keep you going through the years."  Good to focus on those little shreds of light.  It's the only way to keep from being so overwhelmed with disappointment and sadness.

          A Mother’s Prayer

As a mother this is a job full of love that never end

Mothers make it known to their little ones that they are also a friend

When in bed at night all is quiet all are tucked in bed

I heard my mother get on her knees and this is what she said….

“ Dear Almighty God whose love shines brighter than your throne.

You are Omnipresent therefore we are blessed to never be alone.

Thank you for all the joys and even all the tears.

Both have been a benefit throughout my years.

I come to you humbly as your servant to ask of your grace.

That my children look to you no matter what they face.

I know what you can do and have seen what you have done.

For you truly are The Master, there’s no battle you haven’t won.

You’ve blessed me with these children making me their mother.

Please give me all that you are to love them like no other.

Guide them down life’s path keeping them in your hands.

Make them to not question you even if they don’t understand.

Father, let me be your love they see for it surely doesn’t relent.

I just want to follow your lead because you’re the only perfect parent.

And if I make a mistake, oh yes I surely will.

Please extend your forgiveness as I know you love me still.

Let the children see in me how to live a life that’s right.

And bless them all to trust in you with all of their might.

Dear Master, will you please keep them safe as they grow up into their own.

Have them to count on you as the place they can always call home.

As I prepare their meals, wash clothes and with sickness see them through.

Although they see Mother’s face, I’ll smile and tell them it is really you.

I am just your vessel that you purposed as their mother.

So as an example of you, please show me how to teach them to love one another.

I thank you for this job you gave me as an Earthly parent.

All I want to hear you say is well done my good and faithful servant. “

By LadyDen - This is a tribute to all mothers present and passed on.  Happy Mother’s Day today and every day!

        One Step

It’s hard to be motivated to move when your world is at a standstill.

Gripped by suffering and being held in embodied torment against your will.

You can’t raise your arms to swat away the anguish so you just hug yourself.

To get a little window of much needed relief came when you had nothing left.

It served the purpose of letting you know it’s temporary yet hard to accept.

There’s no running but walking toward your healing begins by taking one step.

Yes that’s all you need to propel along the path of much resistance.

It doesn’t matter how long it will take for you to cover the distance.

You’re going to have some really rough days, the “ I can’t go on” kind.

So hey, That’s ok if you can only take just one step at a time.

Those steps will add up then soon you can make more than one.

You’ll know at that moment your healing has clearly begun.

As you make more strides with those steps now being a nice walking pace.

It will dawn on you that you were always in motion to win the race.

Please don’t be discouraged when all you can do for now is one step.

Is that not you still moving even if you require much help?

Rest assured that you are now well on your way to healing,, my friend.

You’ll soon reap the benefits of those tough steps you put in.

Come on, dear warrior….take your first step! It’s just one step!

      The Battle That’s Never Lost

We are in a battle fighting for the right to be returned back to a normal self

Yes, a contentious one that challenges our strength when we feel we have nothing left

We somehow pull out our swords of bravery to combat the internal violence

Hearing sounds of the clacking of them as we’re hit hard rendering us to silence

In every battle there are times when a feeling of defeat grips our very soul

But we mustn’t lie there in the aftermath of a strike scared shaking and cold

Sometimes we have to borrow a little help from our fellow soldiers barely standing too

Taking their hand to get a lift because this is a battle that won’t just stop for you

It will tirelessly go on with casting shadows on the day making it appear night

Be not discouraged by the darkness for we know it soon will be again light

We must keep up our shields to help soften the blows for they will come at will

Brace yourself for this battle and trust that time will bring relief to your ill

Expect there will be a causality for someone must always pay the cost

It will be the old you turned brand new which makes it the battle that’s never lost.

                FROM THE ASHES

This is clearly a burning fire that seeks to consume the very depths of

Who I am known to be

This is the fear that is now before me a new reality scorching my mind in

A way I can’t comprehend

This just makes no sense why the burns are so deep that no amount of

Water will bring relief

This is a haze of smoke billowing from this inferno obscuring my view as

I just wait for it to clear

This is heat of immeasurable magnitude that a million fans doesn’t stand a chance of

Cooling it off

This is my inner wildfire sparked by my bravery to get rid of the poison that

Started this hell

But…..

It serves a purpose of generating the beginning of new life just as seen in a forest when

All appears destroyed until you see a tiny plant

It is surrounded by the black remnants of the seemingly never ending inferno which

Did it’s best to prevent new life and failed.

It is at this moment when we can see that the most visible thing there is

The bright green leaves in the shape of the question we asked everyday….Y 🌱

It is suddenly obvious the answer is the fire HAD to consume everything in its path to

Make room for what is brand new coming from the ashes

Then……

The fire dies out.

The burning cease to exist.

The smoke clears.

You can breathe the long awaited sigh of relief.

You survived the greatest fire you’ve ever known.

YOU are that brand new little green plant that in spite of a raging inferno……

You arose from the ashes.

In honor of Father’s Day. I’m a bit late on this one. Sorry.

            Father’s Love

What a job a father has to walk in the shoes of a stand up man.

How he takes his strides in purposeful steps that he can understand.

The way he wakes at dawn to began his work to model a bread winner.

A smile he gives seeing the plate of his labor when all are seated for dinner.

Just a tip of his hat as he glides out the door stopping to give his kids a kiss.

How he whistles when he walks returning home to the very ones he missed.

Being head of the house manifesting strength for all to depend.

Checking the safety of his family as the sun sets to call the day to end.

He has a chair he calls his own to take away everyday’s stress.

How lovely it is to watch him doze off stealing a bit of rest.

All he does is to model for his children what a real man ought to be.

For he learned from the Heavenly Father a real Father indeed!

Hey there! I have read some good poems here!

I hope this is ok to post here....thought I would share one I wrote to my husband. During my WD, I wasn't able to walk or use my limbs properly. Had all the usual symptoms and agonizing nerve pain. But being trapped in WD while also being trapped in a bed or wheelchair for months and months was something I never expected to live through.

He carried me metaphorically, mentally, and literally physically.

Would not have made it without him :)

CARRIED

Pushed

Carried

Propped

And lifted,

Unnatural strength you were somehow gifted

Horror took my mind, and my body it devoured

You held my soul in the darkest night hours,

Grounding me with your superpowers

Utterly helpless,

I called out your name

Your eyes said they wished

They could take my pain

As you watched the acid burn through my veins

Witnessed the sight of my crumpled up frame

Every day was exactly the same

Our whole life on your shoulders

In one big sack,

My lifeless body across your back

Streams from our eyes filled the tub

As you washed my hair with the deepest love

Tethered me through

Unending sleepless nights

Feeling the agony of my brutal plight

Knowing I'd lost the will to fight

Fed me your will at the end of a spoon

Ever so close to the cliffs of Mt. Doom

Spoke the same words like a song on repeat

You would never relent, never bow to defeat

"Please make it stop, tell me it will go away"

EVERY minute of EVERY day,

You whispered "Baby, it's gonna be ok"

They ask how did I make it?

They say I am strong

But really they have it all wrong

My very own Samwise Gam-gee

I know it was you...

That carried me

Please feel free to post another as you wish. Welcome to the Poetry Cafe!

        See It Through

When you’re up against a trouble

Meet it squarely, face to face.

Lift your chin, set your shoulders,

Plant your feet and take a brace.

When it’s vain to try to dodge it

Do the best that you can do.

You may fail, but you may conquer

See it through!

Black may be the clouds about you

And your future may SEEM grim.

But don’t let your nerve desert you

Keep yourself in fighting trim.

If the worst is bound to happen

Spite of all that you can do.

Running from it will not save you

See it through!

Even hope may seem but futile

When with troubles you’re beset.

But remember that you are facing

Just what other men have met.

You may fall, but fall still fighting

Don’t give up whatever you do.

Eyes front, head high to the finish

See it through!

From LadyDen~ This poem resonates such endurance of strength when facing whatever challenges life throws at us. In our case, recovery from benzos/ zdrugs. Most of us get to a point as the poem stated that we are so worn out feel so defeated that we lose our inner will to fight. But thanks to the brave buddies before us, we see this poem is correct that other men before us have done it. We must not give up. We must see it through. The end result of doing that has been completely healing for those before us and it will be the same for us too. See it through! ❤️🙏

USA SO FREE

I’m proud to be in a land where futures can be so bright

Free to live with love and choices to do what’s right

To go wherever I want to enjoy the beautiful land

To make my voice heard or to take a firm stand

Having a right to worship God as he shows himself to be

I can publicly bow my head thanking him that I’m free

I’m so glad to be here in this land where I will stay

Where I’m free to love, dance, dress as I wish and pray

I don’t want to take for granted or let this gratification slip

I’m not taking it lightly when happy to be free runs across my lips

Neither do I forget the other countries that struggle in life

They’re met with daily danger, hunger and much strife

I want them to know that I wished them a better life too

Never worrying about tomorrow or where to get food

I keep them in my prayers when I lay in my bed at night

That’s why I love this country for fighting for human rights

USA you are so free but there’s still much to do

Together we can conquer much if together we power through.

By LadyDen

May God Bless us all and keep us free to love him. May we take a moment to thank him for being born in a free country. Please be safe. Have fun enjoying the holiday of our independence. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

                  🌹Rose On the Floor🌹

It was dark everywhere I looked not seeing anything more

Then suddenly a soft light shined only on a rose on the floor

I stared at it in wonderment of its petal filled essence

Not understanding why it was singly the only thing present

Standing there with the darkness spread all around

I felt myself slowly dropping to the ground

My eyes still affixed to that circle of light

Illuminating a perfect rose so bright

Like a magnet I was drawn to come take a closer look

A crawl at a time towards it was all it took

I’ve now joined this rose in the circle it lay

It’s beauty held me strangely captive in a way

Suddenly the warm light caused me to know

I was staring at me on the floor aglow

I am that rose beautiful but with thorns

With a destiny set before I was born

Grown among thorns of life that pricked my soul

Drenched with rains that made me whole

Although I’ve been plucked from my garden source

Not by my own doing but by unwelcoming force

Even as I lay here with internal chaos about

This light shows me I’m not alone no doubt

So I gently took it by hand and held it to my heart

For it IS me that will have a brand new start

I stroked its petals coming to know I’m soft as a rose

Pure delight is the smell of my future that filled my nose

So for now I’ll just wait and continue to adore

Myself in a circle of light as a rose on the floor

By LadyDen - We in the benzo community are like roses plucked from their gardens. Not to be torn apart by our symptoms or waves. But, we are to be brought home to our hearts to be put in a watered glass of self love as a reminder that we are beautiful. We are still someone to love and cherish. A rose is still a rose.

I TAKE it as I go along

That life must have its gloom,

That now and then the sound of song

Must fade from every room;

That every heart must know its woe,

Each door death's sable sign,

Care falls to every one, and so

I strive to bear with mine.

Misfortune is a part of life;

No one who journeys here

Can dodge the bitterness of strife

Or pass without a tear.

Love paves the way for us to mourn,

Our pleasures breed regret,

One day a sparkling joy is born,

The next-our eyes are wet.

Each life is tinctured with the pain

Of sorrow and of care,

As now and then come clouds and rain,

Come hours of despair.

And yet the sunshine bursts anew,

And those who weep shall smile,

For joy is always breaking through

In just a little while.
