Yes...good stuff; both versions but original always the favorite

I never knew the original, or that there even was the original, so thanks for enlightening me

It's not limited by any means. There are genres and eras of music and songs I am totally unaware of. For the longest time, I thought this was the original. But it's actually a cover:

Actually from my brother's stereo...and the skating rink with the shag carpeted walls we so readily clutched onto...

Yes, this was the original version:

I find it more melancholy than Blondie's version.

That's got a 50's sound to it; also a scratching fingernails down a chalkboard quality but good tune!

I like your description of it. Probably influenced by a lot of 50's and 60's garage rock bands for sure :)

Joy Division were from UK.

The Sound is a little more upbeat miserable. A London band. Love this performance. Adrian was a big fan of Ian Curtis....

Joy Division...

It's miserable, but it casts a dark spell and makes me move.

I love that song... take me back to younger days of dancing in clubs.. <3

It haunts me, GeorgeVI. Especially after its use in the movie Donnie Darko...

The song's only used briefly, but I'm always reminded of that weird movie! Ditto for Tears For Fears' "Head Over Heels".

"Upbeat miserable". That's what I was going for! A sub genre of "miserable".  ;)
