Hey Keryn and legos,

I'll be sure to add these to the list... may take a bit though... I've indexed only as far as page 4 or 5 so far.

Thanks much for the recommendations!

Hello Albie,

I just saw a new movie. It is a great date night movie yet, I went by myself to get a break for my wd sx's. The movie is called: "Life As We Know It" with Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel. It was really easy to watch and fun.

This is an interesting thread.

On Friday, during the peak of my CT "experiment" I tried to watch "Night of the Living Dead".  I've always been a huge fan of horror films and books, and figured it might take my mind off of the WD.

Well, every sound in that movie made me jump.  The foreboding music and such actually disturbed me and I had to turn it off.

Weird how over-excited and jumpy my emotions were.

Hi cwj,

I know what you mean about being "over-sensitized" to audio and video experiences.  I did not CT...and am almost a year off of my benzo, but I find that I am still needing to be careful about what I watch.  Last night I was home alone and thought that I would take the opportunity to watch the movie, "Precious", which I have really been wanting to see.  About 10 minutes into the movie, I had to take it out.  The little that I saw would have been very depressing in my "normal" state, but I would have been able to continue just because of thinking the story was important for me to see.  With my heightened sensitivity, I knew that going any further into the movie could have really put me in a state that would be hard to get out of.

Which is why Albie started this thread of benzo-safe movies.  Thanks Albie! :smitten:

What a great thread - so many movies!  I tried to scan most of them listed so I hope I'm not being redundant adding a few of my favorites. There are many more that I  love, especially gangster movies from the Godfather, GoodFella's, Casino, American Gangster and The Departed - oh and don't get me started on the Sopranos!  I can tolerate violence if they're good movies with top rate actors like Seven, Silence of the Lambs, and The Shinning.  I even watched the Exorcist a couple of weeks ago!  I just can't watch gory movies I've never seen with bad actors and bad plots - never liked them anyway. Oh, and I love anything with Meryl Streep!

Drama:

A Few Good Men

Erin Brockovich (sorry, lots of swearing)

Cindarella Man

Million Dollar Baby (tough one but such a wonderful theme about father/daughter love)

The Insider

Ocean's 11

Up in the Air

Braveheart  (too much violence for some)

Gladiator (too much violence for some)

What's Love Got to do with it

The Queen

Notes on a Scandal

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Ray

Milk

Frost/Nixon

Good Will Hunting

Rain Man

Jerry Maguire

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

To Kill a Mocking Bird

Coal Miner's Daughter

Comedies:

What about Bob?

Planes Train and Automobiles

Young Frankenstein

Marley and Me

Shakespere In Love

Shallow Hal

The Devil Wears Prada

Action/Adventure:

Jurassic Park

The Hunt for Red October

Crimson Tide

There's a lot more but my brain is exhausted!

There's one I watched 3 times laughing my but off called "She Devil" Roseanne plays in it, a very good comedy..

it's on Netflix.

Keryn.

Very Funny Movie Keryn, I agree.  Makes me think of another funny one, "Death Becomes Her" - must be because Meryl Streep is in both.

Yes I like that one too, the She-Devil, I could watch over and over, it's a good comedy, Meryl plays Mary Fisher in it, an Author.. I won't give the movie away. ;)

Meryl is funny, but Roseanne, as we all know plays very sarcastic and in control type of character in everything.

Wow, lots of great movies....I watch one just about every night now

I'll just stick to a few great comedies I didn't notice on the list:

Superbad

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

40 year old Virgin

Step Brothers (only if you like Will Ferrel)

Role Models (Paul Rudd...need I say more?)

Knocked Up

Pineapple Express (some violence)

The Big Lebowski

Swingers

School of Rock

There's Something About Mary

Wedding Crashers

Also, when I'm SUPER anxious, I just like Pixar films :P

I think someone listed most of those...but I didn't see:

The Incredibles

Despicable Me

Finally, here is my IMDB list of all types of movies that I've enjoyed:

I found that watching intense movies/series took my mind off everything and the enhanced emotional reactions were far preferable to whatever was lurking in my head.

When I did a c/t.. the first time I watched all of LOST -- just marathon start to finish. The second time (the recent time that's still relevant,) I watched all of Dexter, then all of Six Feet Under.

Not sure I would recommend Six Feet Under. By the end of the last season, I was crying hysterically for hours, and the series is kind of built on anxiety. Still enjoyed it thoroughly though and beat the alternative!

OK, this is an emotionally intenst movie but I loved it and have watched it 3 friggin times!  "The Fighter"  OMG, being from Mass I totally got a kick out of the nitty gritty accents but Christian Bale?  It's no wonder he won best supporting actor and Amy Adams won for best supporting actress.  It's a true story, painful to watch at times but I don't want to give the ending away but just let me say totally uplifting and well worth it if you can take it - it's not overy violent, but boxing is a violent sport.  It has some funny moments.  That's my pick of the week and believe me, I don't watch horror movies or creepie ones but give me a good drama with supurb acting and I'm there!

Oh Leena,

I had been dying to see the movie because of the rave reviews and the best supporting acctress nod for Mo'Nique.  I watched it a few months back on cable and it was the single most emotionally painful movie that I think I've ever seen.  Up there with One Flew Over the Cuckoos nest - but at least had very funny uplifting moments, and A Beautiful Mind.  This took the cake - rape, physical abuse, emotional abuse (if you can call it that it was so cruel) and sheer hopelessness.  I'm glad you took it out Leena.  I couldn't watch it now.

Go see what I wrote about "The Fighter" - I got toally hooked, watched it 3 times in 48 hours, he, he  ;)

Hope you're hanging in there.

Do NOT watch Dinner for Schmucks. It was far more painful than funny. I was having a great day, now I'm a hardcore anxiety attack. Even my girlfriend had trouble watching it.
