If You Could Pick a Song or Songs That Describe Your Benzo W/D, What and Why?

Jimmy Hendrix “all along the watchtower “

Originally written and performed by Bob Dylan. After Dylan heard Hendrix' version, he stated the song belonged to Hendrix. Dylan is a master songwriter, he didn't get a Nobel Prize for Literature for nothing. The lyrics are a bit nonsensical, I highlighted a few that I found applicable to benzo w/d.

Dylan wrote this while recuperating at home for 18 months, following a motorcycle accident. It may have been his way of expressing how he felt, in the situation he found himself in. Many note that the end takes you back to the beginning, the song loops on itself. The end appears to reference the accident. Others note that Dylan was expressing his frustration with his management at CBS, he felt they were screwing him out of royalties. Many of us are frustrated with our prescribers of benzos, and the w/d., we feel we've been screwed out of years of our life. A lot of parallels there.

[Verse 1]

"There must be some way out of here"

Said the joker to the thief

"There's too much confusion

I can't get no relief

Businessmen, they drink my wine

Plowmen dig my earth

None of them along the line

Know what any of it is worth"

[Verse 2]

"No reason to get excited"

The thief, he kindly spoke

"There are many here among us

Who feel that life is but a joke

But you and I, we've been through that

And this is not our fate

So let us not talk falsely now

The hour is getting late"

[Verse 3]

All along the watchtower

Princes kept the view

While all the women came and went

Barefoot servants too

Outside, in the distance

A wildcat did growl

Two riders were approaching

The wind began to howl

Jars of Clay is a favorite of mine. Flood was my introduction to them. Bought everything after. Saw them in concert twice, front row seats both times. Burlap to Cashmere opened, another awesome band.

This song describes my journey through acute, into healing. I am now benzo free.

They are a Greek American folk/folk rock band that is a staple at the Bitter End in NYC.

Fun fact about Burlap, Teddy Pagano is the drummer. He's also an architect and interior designer who is responsible for the famed Apple store in NYC with the hidden glass doors. He continues to design interiors at Apple stores around the country.

There's a place where I come from

It's the place where I belong

Where you will never die

Wipe the tears off from your eyes

Sun and moon and stars above

Never match this perfect love

Just look to the painter's hands

Like an ocean meets it's sand

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Twisted castles in her hair

Building mountains in the air

Making profits, lending loans

Ancient TV's, rotary telephones

But within this misty cave

Lies a painter, blind but brave

Paints the story of where we've been

Where we are, where we could be

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

So kiss the light, seize the day

Shine your shoes, come to play

Sun is shining, sky is clear

Leave your worries with your fears

Light eternal, sleep inside

To my heart and through my eyes

Bringing in sweetness to my soul

Close your eyes, be made whole

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

I will ride my bus, I will ride my bus

I will ride my bus, my bus, I'll ride

There's a place where I come from

It's the place where I belong

Where you will never die

Wipe the tears off from your eyes

Sun and moon and stars above

Never match this perfect love

Leave behind your broken past

Sing the song, we're free at last

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime digigee digigee dime

Digigee digigee dime dime

Jacky boo is on a roll. Evanescence is another good band.

Hey, it ain't such a long drop, don't stammer, don't stutter

From the diamonds in the sidewalk to the dirt in the gutter

And you'll carry those bruises to remind you wherever you go

You can gaze out the window, get mad and get madder

Throw your hands in the air, say, "What does it matter?"

But it don't do no good to get angry

So help me, I know

For a heart stained in anger grows weak and grows bitter

You become your own prisoner as you watch yourself sit there

Wrapped up in a trap of your very own

Chain of sorrow.

"Once in a Lifetime"

Talking Heads

And you may find yourself living in a shotgun shack

And you may find yourself in another part of the world

And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile

And you may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife

And you may ask yourself, "Well... how did I get here?"

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground

Into the blue again after the money's gone

Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

And you may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

And you may ask yourself, "Where is that large automobile?"

And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful house"

And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful wife"

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground

Into the blue again after the money's gone

Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Water dissolving and water removing

There is water at the bottom of the ocean

Under the water, carry the water

Remove the water at the bottom of the ocean

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground

Into the blue again, into the silent water

Under the rocks and stones, there is water underground

Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go by, water flowing underground

Into the blue again after the money's gone

Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground

And you may ask yourself, "What is that beautiful house?"

And you may ask yourself, "Where does that highway go to?"

And you may ask yourself, "Am I right? Am I wrong?"

And you may say to yourself, "My God! What have I done?"

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Same as it ever was and look where my hand was

Time isn't holding up, time isn't after us

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Letting the days go by, same as it ever was

Here a twister comes, here comes the twister

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was

Once in a lifetime, let the water hold me down

Letting the days go by

Kinda describes the last years -- "how did I get here?"

This song is PERFECT!!  Totally describes this wd experience!!

"Souvenirs" by John Price

All the snow has turned to water

Christmas days have come and gone

Broken toys and faded colours

Are all that's left to linger on

I hate graveyards and old pawn shops

For they always bring me tears

I can't forgive the way they robbed me

Of my childhood souvenirs

Memories, they can't be boughten

They can't be won at carnivals for free

Well it took me years to get those souvenirs

And I don't know how they slipped away from me

Broken hearts and dirty windows

Make life difficult to see

That's why last night and this morning

Always look the same to me

And I hate reading old love letters

For they always bring me tears

I can't forget the way they robbed me

Of my sweetheart's souvenirs

Memories they can't be boughten

They can't be won at carnivals for free

Well it took me years to get those souvenirs

And I don't know how they slipped away from me.

I guess for me it's the nostalgia and feeling of having lost memories and time.  I think the last part

I don't know how they slipped away from me" wraps it up.

Kate Bush “running up that hill”

This song always makes me think of my Kitty and how ephemeral her life is...

"And if I only couldI'd make a deal with God, and I'd get him to swap our places [...]"

I'm aware that Kate Bush had a different interpretation in her mind when writing the song. But the beauty and magic of art is that it is open to interpretation...
