Eureka, glad I found this forum!

I just heard about this forum on a YouTube video by the BenzoAction.org group (I believe it was a Colorado Consortium group). I have been looking for an online support group since going off of Xanax (6 mg/day) cold turkey after nearly years of that prescribed dose.

I have been off Xanax since January 11, 2022, but the protracted withdrawal symptoms have been so severe that I visited an addiction specialist who has now prescribed .5mg of Klonopin twice daily to help wean completely off benzodiazepines with some semblance of a normal life.

I look to share stories with other people with similar situations, and I hope that I can help and be helped on this forum.

Hello Greener1   Welcome to BenzoBuddies!

We are glad you joined the community, you will get plenty of support here.  Cold turkey is a rough ride, symptoms are horrific.  It can take quite a while to recover after complete withdrawal.  I started feeling better at 18 months, 2 years for complete recovery, I did a slow taper.  Slow is the way to go.  You should taper at a rate that is comfortable. The rule of thumb is to reduce between 5/10% every 10/14 days, many need to go slower, whatever feels comfortable.  You'll find a great community of people here who will support and encourage you. Feel free to check out the forum and to post to any of the dedicated boards,

I suggest you check out the Ashton Manual, you will find It is a valuable resource for learning about benzos and the effect these drugs have on our body.  As well as withdrawal information, it lists  possible withdrawal symptoms symptoms

I'll leave you a few links:

Klonopin is a benzo, it is your plan to reinstate a benzo? it will cause something caused kindling, xsnsx and Klonopin is like whiskey and vodka, both are alcohol, maybe another drug in order to feel relief ? just letting you know you addiction specialist is prescribing you another benzo

Hi! Yes, the idea is that the disabling and entirely debilitating Xanax withdrawal symptoms, partially due to the relative high dosage I was on, have caused life to be miserable the past year. The plan is to begin a slower wean off of benzos using this dosage of Klonopin, which is certainly far less than the 6mg of Xanax a day. I appreciate your advice, but am well aware that both medications are benzos. Thanks, and have a great day!

Why don't you try pregabalin first ? it might work without further messing with your gaba receptors, but that's up for you to decide, just giving an option, take care.
