Diazepam vs lorazepam dosage

Does anyone know what 1.5mg Ativan equals in diazepam?

Somewhere between 7.5 and 15 mg, depending on the information source.

My doctor wants to cross me over to diazepam to start the taper process.  Wonder how they determine what to use.  The difference between 7.5 and 15 is huge.

Might be less complicated to simply taper Ativan directly.  Many people do it that way.  Obviously, that's up to you and your doctor.

It's about the same.  You'll have to measure out lorazepam a few times a day whereas diazepam can usually be dosed 1-2 times a day.  That's about the only difference.

 

One advantage of lorazepam is that you quickly know the effect of a dose reduction.  With valium, it can take several days to feel the effects of a cut.  Doesn't matter as much for a cut and hold taper, but I think a daily micro-taper works better with a benzo with a shorter half-life.

thanks Bandocref.  I do want to micro taper.  I micro tapered from clonazepam that went overall smoothly.  Just took a long time
