Bringing up Annie 🐕

Some of you know I brought home a puppy on Monday the 22nd, of April 2024.  She was 8 weeks old, now I've had some real thought-swings like, did I do the right thing in getting a dog?  What's happened is that I have applied with all the strength I can muster, the training tips I have gained from pros ;) and they are working. I'm holding fast to the promise it will be worth it, loss of sleep, changing my routine, getting everything out of her reach (the many electrical cords I have, especially in little office area) Crate Training her, of course potty training.

One thing that has been hard is to realize I have to set aside time for myself so that I will be at my best for her.  I am back into my exercise (walk 30, and resistance bands) but was afraid to leave her alone in the first week as she cried at first in her crate, 2nd day, wow, she got ok with it.  Potty training is one bummer until she gets her full series of shots.  She is to be kept indoors but I am adjusting to that, and she is predictable now, her little routine of her own :) I don't scold her, I just say one word, like no, down, and two words as well "good girl" and give her a tiny treat when she minds me.  Repetition is the ticket, and hard for me to learn, but I am learning just as much as she has to ;)

I'll sure be glad to have her with me on my walks.  We'll be taking baby-steps and she'll always be a small dog, but I like slow walks almost as more than my fast-paced on my own.  I sort of get to see more, and smell those roses more as they say :)

She also is learning that relaxing and being cuddled is nice too, but she is independent as far as playing with her toys, once I get her started by playing fetch.  She did that the first day, 8 weeks old.  Easy to get her attention, but have to be serious and say her name she is learning to respond to :)

She is helping me so much get through a rough time in my taper, and distracting me in healthy ways, even if I get real tired/sleepy, she comes first.  No more just caring for myself, she needs me I'm all she has, she's a little baby, and had to leave her mommy, and siblings but she is adjusting so well.  I'll get more pics as we go, and on my youtube channel, get some videos of her antics.

She's napping now, but in and out of her crate, usually just even a half hour to an hour so I can get things done without the worry of her underfoot. I cannot recommend being trained as a pet-owner before you ever embark on adding a much rewarding addition to your family, or just a person alone that doesn't have to be :) Denise

She sure is one cutie patootie🥰🥰🥰

She is very smart, I need much more training than she does, kind of working with a "slightly" incapacitated brain, but we are doing pretty well I'd say ;)  What breed is your dog GG? OL~Denise PS yours looks a lot like Annie :)

@[or...] Annie is gorgeous. Pups are as much work as babies & depend on you! Crates are good - a safe haven where a dog can feel secure. Our dogs love theirs. Our last pup was carried in a sling so inclusion in walks were possible! Car rides too. In UK, vet surgeries have puppy sessions so pups can socialise. There is a whole pet marketing industry but essentially Annie just needs love & care & later more activity & there will be a companionship & fun times ahead.

I wondered about a sling or something I could carry her in my front of me, like a baby.  Any recommends and what you think is most comfy for her, she's light as a feather so far ;)  I think she needs more fresh air than only what we get with my windows open ;)  She can't be with other dogs, or go potty around here, or where she is susceptible until we get all her series of shots done.  She's only had 2, Distemper and Parvo so far, GL :)

She is good in my truck and will be a constant companion on some trips, where she won't be left in truck alone at all.  I never did that with my first girl either but how she loved going byby ;) That's why I wanted a puppy so I could raise and train her myself, plus bond with her.

Do have a look on Amazon. You’ll only need a sling/carrier for a short time. There are different styles. You could fashion a shawl if she is not too wriggly. It’s a great way as she’ll get to be outside so it’ll give her fresh air, change of scene & confidence. A carry round is also a great conversation opener!

She's absolutely adorable! Thanks so much for the detailed introduction to Annie. Just think how much information she is filing away...and just like humans, repetition/consistency is invaluable.

I found something kind of interested in as I need "maybe" an adjustable trap since it looks like my height is well below average at 5'2".  I also want one with a pocket above on the strap for my phone/keys/maybe ID etc.

What do you think of this one @[Ka...] or anyone else at all that walks using one of these slings?  I do like the way these hang, and also, I weighed Annie and she is 5 lbs 2 oz right now ;)

Less expensive one

a bit more expensive  The Measurments/Length width etc. are wrong on this so I'll have to ask if I decide I want this one.

There's another below, a bit more money, one I get up to 10 lbs of her weight which I think she won't be much bigger than that and just a good price comparatively speaking.  She's napping and so will I. Been up since 5 so any feedback will be welcomed :) Denise :

love purple, lol ;)

I discovered some also on Etsy. It’s all about comfort for you both & pockets are useful for essentials.

Ok Katrina, thanks so much, it will probably be me trying out the cheaper one then first, or one with a pocket :) I'm confused right now as I've been offered another apartment in my home-State.  It's overwhelming to think of moving, plus my new puppy, LOL! But she is just wonderful and of course they except pets. I don't even have to pay a deposit because she is a companion pet, have a note from my doc :)

That’s good news @[or...] since you did want to move after all the recent upsetting fiasco. A lot to take in. Focus on one thing at a time. You & little Annie are going to have adventures.

Thought I'd put in another pic since I'm just amazed at how good this little puppy is.  She was born on Feb 14th so that makes her going on 9 weeks old if my brain is working right this a.m.  She plays hard, but I've learned to do that with her rather than my usual staring at the computer too long in the a.m.'s.  It takes, honestly, some really enjoyable effort to play with her, then she'll nap a bit.

I'm now handling things I didn't think I'd be able to, and I feel so good about myself and see what a blessing this little dog is for me.  This Tuesday, we go to get her next shots, and I've ordered a Sling to carry her in when I want to go for bigger walks.  Also, I had to wait to take her outside to potty because of her not having her next of series shots.  So new potty training for outside, but she and I will do well.

I don't even have to put her in her crate as much like this a.m.  She just fell asleep by my feet while I'm getting on here.  She is really part of my "support group" now, and I want to enjoy her puppy-hood as I know it will go by fast, but one day at a time, not thinking about her and I growing older, well, most of the time :balloon::smitten:

Yes, she is relaxing more, and when she relaxes, I get to, lol ;) I'd forgotten how much more you feed a puppy, as they burn up their energy so fast.  I have to eat more to keep up with her ;)

Hi AB, I didn't start out thinking I made the right decision, but I can't tell you how good I feel about seeing myself doing way more with her, activity even just around the house!  I don't know who is better for who here, but I think she is better for me :smitten:
