WELL, MY BEAUTIFUL FRIEND,

YOU MUST BE SPYING ON ME...CAUSE THAT'S PRETTY MUCH HOW I LOOK RIGHT NOW.

I WILL BE HAPPY TO HOLD YOU UP, BREAK DOWN WITH YOU, SHARE YOUR WRETCHEDNESS, ROLL MY EYES AT THE THOUGHT OF CLIMBING TO THE TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN, AND SHINE THE FLASHLIGHT WHILE WE MAKE OUR WAY QUIETLY THROUGH THE VALLEY OF DARKNESS....YOUR MY FRIEND, AND I'VE GOT YOUR BACK!

I ALSO BROUGHT A PICNIC LUNCH...WE CAN SHARE IT AFTER OUR EMOTIONAL ADVENTURE. WE NEED OUR STRENGTH TO MAKE IT THROUGH WHATEVER LIES AROUND THE NEXT CORNER.

LOVE YOU MY SISTER FRIEND,

Morning everyone here...

I've been a lurker for a while on this thread.

So, Insom, here I am, posting .... ;)

Thank you..

One of my fav poets is Mary Oliver. I love how she stands in the margins of things and how many of her poems are about , what I'd say are " quiet things " in daily life , no big happenings in general but something Ive been thinking about a lot : we often don't remember the big events of our life time but small things that happened out of nowhere. And they aren't often written about in the way she can. I think..

Anyway... ::)

Mary Oliver

The Journey

One day you finally knew

what you had to do, and began,

though the voices around you

kept shouting

their bad advice--

though the whole house

began to tremble

and you felt the old tug

at your ankles.

"Mend my life!"

each voice cried.

But you didn't stop.

You knew what you had to do,

though the wind pried

with its stiff fingers

at the very foundations,

though their melancholy

was terrible.

It was already late

enough, and a wild night,

and the road full of fallen

branches and stones.

But little by little,

as you left their voices behind,

the stars began to burn

through the sheets of clouds,

and there was a new voice

which you slowly

recognized as your own,

that kept you company

as you strode deeper and deeper

into the world,

determined to do

the only thing you could do--

determined to save

the only life you could save.

Welcome, Moo

So wonderful to have you here.

I am sitting here teared up that you posted that Mary Oliver poem.

Only a few weeks ago came across her poetry and sat in the middle of the night reading and re-reading

"The Journey."

Oh, I do relate to the "road being full of branches and stones" and to hearing "mend my life" -- and feeling the tug at my ankles.

Powerful, powerful

Thank you, SO much for this, Moo.

Hugs for you, my friend.

Love,

Ins

BEAUTIFUL...

I CAN SO RELATE TO THIS...

I AM STUGGLING, WORKING, FOCUSING ON TRYING TO "MEND MY LIFE"!

IT IS MY BELIEF THAT "WE" ALL ARE!

WHO KNEW IT WOULD INVOLVE SO MUCH WORK?

THANK YOU FOR SHARING...

NICE TO HAVE YOU HERE...

Acquainted with the Night

Robert Frost, 1874 - 1963

I have been one acquainted with the night.

I have walked out in rain—and back in rain.

I have outwalked the furthest city light.

I have looked down the saddest city lane.

I have passed by the watchman on his beat

And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet

When far away an interrupted cry

Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;

And further still at an unearthly height,

One luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right

I have been one acquainted with the night.

I like this poem. It's suggesting , to me, that the end of the journey isn't in sight. That there is a duality about time...

It Sets a  bit of an accepting tone. But it's also moody.

Moo,

Thank you for commenting on this.

Makes me wonder what this person is facing as she/he walks.

Why out alone at night . . .

Have a restful evening, my friend.

:)

It makes me feel this person has no home to go to at all...

Hope your evening is calm, too.
