Hello room, long time watcher, first time commenting in here - I intimately knew Xanax from the time I was 28, even then I was embarrassed to say 'Xanax' instead I would always use 'Alprazolam' when asked what drugs I was currently taking when getting surgery - my life was an embarrassment, thanks for listening

I understand that  feeling completely  Dan- I started my xanax at age 29- and here I am 30 years later- was always embarassed to admit I took xanax- always such a stigma about it- I look forward to the day I no longer get the looks from the pharmacist like I am a drug addict- even though I only take my prescribed dose...and all the shame in needing that pill to survive!!  We will survive this!!!

Hey everyone. Just checking in. I feel decent. "The pit" in my stomach is improving (at a glacial pace) and even breaks up at times over the last month. my mind is still anxious and filled with intrusive, scary thoughts. Looping seemed to slow though. I get breaks from constantly thinking about my past.

Keep on keeping on.

Never again.

Hi guys,

I thought I would come here and ask for opionions on something I am considering. In my 5th month now after jumping, having debilitating muscle issues that dont seem to show improvement. I dont know if my short taper is to blame or not but I am playing with the idea of reinstating on a longer acting benzo to get relief from this and then getting in touch with an addiction specialist to help me taper off. The way Im thinking of it, yes id have to do another taper, but on the other hand I dont know how much longer I can keep going like this with almost no mobility and no life. Who knows how many months it could take. Some buddies have said it took a year or more.

Laura- you have been through such hell so far I hate to think of you becoming a slave to another benzo- even if it is long acting....if you hang in there maybe the side effects will subside...after this hellish journey I never want to put a  benzo poison in my system and have to go through  this again- please try to hang in there...you've come so far!!

We are a family here, we used Xanax by a prescription or by choice, and as we took it, we became Zombies spaced out and guilty, and when we were able to finally quit this evil drug, people around us made us feel like pariahs for being malingerers or fake sick all the time - but we are personally, mentally and spiritually done with the drug...

Now that we are finished with the drug, we must hold our heads high, take faith in each other, provide support where we can, lean on each other where necessary, gather together and work to make this medieval drug a thing of the past, make it illegal to use, and treated like Thalidomide so that it is off the market forever - and no one else has to suffer like we have...

Amen, Dan. Last night was tough. Found myself in a park bawling to a friend wanting to find them just for some relief. They are evil and we will win!

Hey guys - just wanted to share that times really do get better. It's hard to remember during the bad times, but they do get better. Tonight, I ran down to wawa for cigs and a sandwich. I had zero problem. I wasn't even in a rush. I stood, waiting for sandwich to be made, others were around me - zero anxiety.

I hope I don't scare anyone - I still have sxs because I didn't taper. I'm a CT. If you're tapering - keep going! It does get better!

Prayers for all

Never again

Oh it's no worries, ontheroad. It has gotten easier. It's not "easy" yet. You're doing the right thing by tapering and being on buspar while doing it. Eventually, getting off the buspar will be next. But I don't think there's anything wrong with getting some help now. Plus from what I've read, the worst of the worst happens while you taper. So don't take my timeline in consideration thinking you'll be like this at 5 months off after a taper. One day at a time.

I can't even think ahead to getting off the buspar or the zoloft- they are my crutch to get me through this taper right now.....at least they are not benzos ....thank god!  One day at a time for all of us...

Hey, fellow Xanax peeps.

How's everyone doing?

I can really tell how my sxs are breaking up. It almost makes it a touch harder because I feel like "this is it," but I know it's not. Tinnitus is still there at night. Hyperacusis is still breaking up. "The pit" is still breaking up/getting more mild. Intrusive thoughts, well, I hear they're the last to go. It's exciting yet torture to see the light at the end. I know I have a quite a few dips left, but I honestly seem to be progressing similarly to those who've healed in a year. I pray I am anyway!

Hope you're all well,

Never again

thanks for asking Illneverdothisagain. I am glad to hear some of your symptoms are breaking up....its about time for you to get a break!  I hope good feelings keep happening for you. As for me- just made another sizable cut today- and I have one to go till I jump. I actually expected today to be worse- but perhaps the cut has not caught up with me yet...or maybe- I can only hope- that this cut won't be as bad as the last couple have been. Here's to a good weekend for us all.

I actually feel about 75-80% on good days/during good moments. I can drive, run errands. Nothing too crazy, but better than the *constant* fear. You're going to be a rock star. I know it. You're going to feel so much better once your taper is done. Many feel healed by the end of their taper. Even if you don't, it won't be too long after. Keep it up! Proud of you.

Hi guys,

Sorry to jump in again but I just remembered something very scary. I am not positive but realized that I may have been given a benzo through IV in the hospital when I had my gallbladder taken out in February, a month and a half after I jumped. I think it was called Versed or Midazolam. I am trying to get the medical record to make sure but I am pretty sure thats what they said. I was an idiot and didnt ask the drug class. Would one dose of this be a setback or make me kindled? Im really freaking out, please help

Hi Laura,

I just replied on another post of yours asking about this.  Even Dr. Ashton says a one-time dose for surgery should not be a problem.  I would tend to think the surgery itself and hospitalization is more likely to cause symptoms to escalate for awhile.

It shouldnt be a problem. If it was, it would have showed up by now.

That is good to hear. I was afraid that essentially taking a dose would kind of reset it all over again and erase the progress already made since jumping

A Urine test will show the benzos if you were given them - if you want to check it out - I tested positive for benzos for 3 months after my detox, proven by hospital records -

I did have a urine test later but I think it was over a month afterwards and there was nothing. I was afraid more of it sort of erasing my progress in healing but I guess it would take more than one dose to do that, like a few at least?

I cut my dose today from 1 mg at 8 am to .5 mg at 8 am.  I shall take another .5 at 2 pm and then 1 mg at 8 pm.  My thinking is if i cut morning dose that by time 8 pm 1 mg dose gets here i should not lose mych sleep.  Wish me luck.
