Does This Study Explain our Benzo Bloat / Gut Issues?

Greetings Buddies,  Am I correct in reading this that valium (benzos) have an effect to "significantly" inhibit digestion and digestive secretions?  That this is helpful for ulcer patients - but if we previously had normal digestion and took a benzo over time, the effect was similar to a "vagotomy" stomach surgery!, that our stomachs had (have?) a "significant delay in gastric emptying" and decrease in "gastric secretion"?  And that it is not like chewing Tums anti-acid tablets but "the mechanism of which has to be assumed in its actions on higher regulatory structures of autonomic function in the central nervous system".

I didn’t read but it looks interesting. Are there many studies that cite this one? Will have to take a closer look. Thanks for posting!

Not keen on the last sentence possibly endorsing diazepam a full 9 years after benzos were reported to be addictive in 1961.  Luckily other non benzos prob do the job now -))

Interesting study though.  Thanks

Dick

A PPI is a far safer alternative  :)

What that study means to us is that what we call benzo bloat is caused by benzos (valium) *significantly* inhibited our digestion by  suppressing  our gastric enzymes / acids and the emptying of our stomachs.  The effect of taking benzos is 'like having stomach surgery'.  It says the root of the problem is our CNS messages to our stomach were suppressed.

THAT friends explains why we have "benzo bloat"!!!!  So it follows we should add a good natural digestive enzymes supplement before meals - until our CNS fully heals or we may need digestive aids longterm.

And that, friends, is a study attorneys can stand on in lawsuits for damages!
