Have been looking at abstract paintings and like this one.

Hans Hofman 1954

Orchestral Dominance in Yellow

Also like Alfred  Manessier's work but can't seem to copy and paste here.

Thanks LF. Love the Godward and the name "Orchestral Dominance in Yellow" is great in itself. You can see the texture in it.

I'll do a portrait too. Here's 1814 Henry Raeburn - Boy and Rabbit

Hi Cate

How are you?  My day has been ok.  Not much happening with me. Wish I would improve a bit more. Don't we all.

I love the Boy and Rabbit.  :)

MisioPL - Ave Maria is one of my favourites.  :)

This is my favourite thread because it lifts my spirits every time. I really thought more Buddies would join in. They don't know what they are missing.

Watching a TV programme to commemorate 100 years of the start of World War 1. So sad and poignant. We should never forget the millions who died.

Hey LF, I'm not bad. I managed to stabilize and bring my tolerance down and have started my taper proper. I'm doing it fast (zopiclone) because you feel like crap even stabilized on it. Had some stress lately that was unfortunate on top of it, but hopefully that will settle down. My real problem is my illness that's on top of the taper.

I watched All Quiet on the Western Front yesterday to commemorate WW1, I'd never seen it. WW2 gets all the movies usually and press. Most people don't know much about WW1. I had to look up how it started and who was involved, very complex. Anyway, the film was truly great, esp for 1930.

I hope you see some improvement, and for all of us.  :smitten:

Glad you like the thread, we'll just keep it plogging along.

The Little Knitters, Albert Anker, 1892

Hi Cate

Best of luck with your taper. Withdrawal on its own is bad enough without other things added on top. I hope it goes well for you.

I like the still life - shells, flowers, butterflies - all beautiful.

The Little Knitters I just came across. Never heard of the artist before. I like the little girl in particular.

One ceramic poppy for every British serviceman/woman killed in World War 1.  Every name is being read out between 4 August and 11 November. 888,246 were killed.

Thanks LF. That's a charming painting of the children, just lovely. Yes the little girl looks so intent.

I did see the poppy installation at London Tower on Twitter and I thought it was marvelous. Very striking, beautiful and moving, an excellent idea.

I'll do music today. Here's Bach Double Violin Concerto in D minor 2nd movement, Largo

How are you doing?

Hugs

The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit (1882) ~  by John Singer Sargent

John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) was an American artist, considered the "leading portrait painter of his generation" for his

evocations of Edwardian era luxury.  During his career, he created roughly 900 oil paintings and more than 2,000 watercolors,

as well as countless sketches and charcoal drawings.

Thanks for the great John Singer Sargent painting Insomniac. The painting and the artist are new to me.

It's tricky getting photos on here, the link has to be from a webpage with the painting by itself I believe, to work. The photo viewers they use on wikipedia and on a lot of blogs don't show up.

Here it is.

And here's a photo with the painting displayed in Boston between the two vases that are in the painting.

Thank you, so very much for posting the John Singer Sargent painting and for reiterating how to get the links to work.

You're so very kind to do that.

Here is a link for Beethoven's 5 Secrets - One Republic (Cello Orchestral Cover) by The Piano Guys.

The description of the video indicates that they used 5 different melodies from the 4 movements

of Beethoven's 5th Symphony.

It's nothing, I'm happy to help.

I really liked that video Insomniac, those guys are new to me too, I favorited it. Beethoven is a god to me, but I never heard of the rock band they are using so that is great!

Thanks!

Hi Cate

I have had a bad spell but luckily they don't last too long nowadays. It is like emerging out of a deep pit back into the light.  >:(

"Turn your face towards the sunshine and you will never see the shadows". (Helen Keller)

Great quote from an amazing woman.

Bach Double Violin Concerto in D minor 2nd movement, Largo is one of the pieces on the CD which I listen to every night as I try to get to sleep. Thanks for posting. It is so soothing.

Hope you are doing ok.

Hugs

Hello Cate and LF,

Thank you both for welcoming me.

I'm enjoying the glorious postings.  Moonrise is such a calming image.    Just beautiful.

Some years ago I remember seeing a Seurat at the Art Institute Chicago.    The magnitude of the painting was breathtaking.

A Sunday on La Grande Jatte 1884.  I'm unable to properly post links to images.  But, that's the  name of

the piece.

Warm wishes

I just listened to the Bach double violin concerto, LF.  Very relaxing.

Here is a link to another violin piece:

I hope you start feeling better, LF.

You posted correctly the last time. You just missed out the bracket after img at the beginning. Very easily done.

I enjoyed Yo-Yo Ma.  :)  Listened to a few of his clips on youtube.

Hope you keep posting.

I am feeling much better tonight. 1.00 a.m. here in Scotland.

How are you? I assume you don't sleep well. I swing from one extreme to the other.
