Success Stories Pay Dirt

Since success stories are the lifeline for this community I thought I'd share this discovery.

I was reading this thread about Don Killian (who apparently is eli1111)

http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=202854.0

eli1111's Blog - http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=74108.0

There is a mention of his website merryjoyousfree.com but unfortunately that site is offline.  He seems like a very positive influence on this community so it was sad to see his content out of reach.

I put on my internet detective hat and used the Way Back Machine internet archive tool to look at his website.  Unfortunately much of the content was not archived including his video library.

There was a link posted to a google doc which is a collection of success stories taken from multiple sources.  I downloaded it but the file is corrupted.

Here is the reference to that file on the Way Back Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/20160513105121mp_/http://www.merryjoyousfree.com/other-stuff

See the bottom of the page for the link to Success Stories.  There is also an interesting Draft White Paper that he posted about psych med guidelines.  That file is not corrupted.

Here is the direct link to that white paper file: http://storage.googleapis.com/wzukusers/user-17253345/documents/5670238b82a5cBHeOMEh/White%20Paper.pdf

I used a PDF repair tool and was able to resurrect the collection of 106 Success Stories.

I have uploaded the repaired Success Story file here:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_mpPG5TeT1RqfC0qb1o1lOSoh5HRyte7/view?usp=sharing

Some points here:

[*]This was publicly available information, though tough to find, and I doubt Don would have an issue with me sharing it here.

[*]Many (maybe most) of the Success Stories are taken from BB so you would have seen them already.  I did some poking around and half the stories I sampled (I sampled 4) were not on BB, or at least the phrases I sampled did not produce search results.  I was not about to search through 106 stories (238 pages worth).

[*]This may have been shared on BB before but I have yet to see it.

[*]The file is repaired but there is still some jumbled or badly spaced text throughout the file.

[*]I am not responsible for the accuracy of this information.  I came across it, was able to recover it, and thought some of you might find it useful

Hopefully this brings someone comfort today.  I know I could use some.

Cheers

J

I found a bunch of Don Killian's YouTube videos here:

They're not success stories, but I thought Don Killian fans might appreciate them anyway.

Great resource.  Even though Don took a turn for the worse and went offline.  I hope he is doing better.

These videos will be useful.  Thank you Redevan.

Oh gosh, he took a turn for the worse? How did you find this out? I get so nervous when people go offline and I cannot get an update on them. Thank you for providing this information for all of us. You really did some digging.

Rebecca,

It is discussed in this thread (mentioned above): http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?topic=202854.120

Apparently he was healed for many years but got triggered back into acute setback by listening to Binaural Beat Therapy.  It is music that transitions from left to right and back again stimulating your brain.  There are different frequencies that have different effects.  I've listened to it before.  A popular version of it is "Record Player".  Here's an example but don't listen with headphones if you are worried you may have a similar reaction.

Before my last benzo go-around I listened to it with headphones with no adverse reactions.  Listening to it now without headphones makes me a little dizzy.  But use your own judgment.

According to reports Don fell asleep listening to it and it kept playing through his sleep.  He said that's when the setback symptoms began.

Glad you found it useful.  I'm approaching a year and while much much better I'm in a mini wave this week so success stories are my fuel right now.

Yes, I'll be a year into my taper next month, March, omygosh, you reminded me!!  My last taper was just 1% but I was hoping I could maybe taper more often, smaller amounts.  I finally hit a window after holding a 3% taper for 34 days!

We are kickin it though @[jo...] :D  I love how tekkie you are and found all that info!!  Amazing job well done, oregonlady :balloon:

Thank you @[or...]. Congrats on your taper.  I looked at your history and it seems steady progress for you has been happening.  Congratulations on a slow steady taper.  Mine was abrupt and traumatic but starting to feel better, though I think I overdid it with caffeine and gym this week.  Today feels like a bit of a minor setback.  Happy to hear about your window.  Looking forward to my next one.  Shouldn't be too long away.

I know you're going to feel better soon I just know it 👍😉

Thank you @[or...].   I appreciate that very much.  I'm not nearly as miserable as I was last March when I got no more than 45 mins of sleep a night for over a month and had a host of other awful symptoms.  I am grateful to be a year out and sleeping almost normally.  I am in much much better shape but still have episodes here and there.  So in the grand scheme of things I'm very lucky, and grateful for this forum and caring people such as yourself.

I hear you on the sleep issue I've had a lot of insomnia but most of mine started when I was I can't remember maybe 5 months 6 months into my taper and last night or I should say this morning at 1:00 a.m. I woke up and could not go back to sleep I finally got up at 3:00 after hoping I'd fall back to sleep but your reply also encouraged me to just hang in there because that's going to get better too I've gotten better in so many ways I have to remember that and it sounds to me like you remember that too 🌞🌹

@[or...] it does get better.  My sleep is almost back to normal.  Right now I have a wave of irritability and lethargy.  Hopefully soon it resolves.

As a musician and sound designer i really love this. Very nice thanks for sharing.
