ashton manual irony?

[kl...]

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I'm on stage 5 of withdrawing from 3mg of Klonopin (so I'm at .75 klonopin and 30mg vallium / day).  The irony is I started klonopin exclusively for sleep, but the ashton manual says to take all the klonopin during the day and the vallium 3 / day.  SO, if I can cope with the anxiety during the day and nights are the hardest, doesn't it make sense to take most of the klonopin and vallium at night?  OH, I also take 200mg of Trazadone, which I was on before even beginning this withdrawal process, if that gives you any idea how bad insomnia has been in my life.  Hope that all made sense.

I'm not sure about the timing when still taking a mixture of your old benzo and Valium, but my addiction specialist told me it's quite ok to take all the Valium dose at night, because it's so long-acting that it will still work this way.  I found that this method greatly enhanced my sleep compared to any other method of getting off benzos (Xanax in my case).  I was even able to sleep well while tapering down way faster than recommended, although there were fairly serious anxiety symptoms during the day.  This doctor is familiar with the Ashton manual, and understands the various benzo equivalent doses, so he is pretty well informed.  I did find insomnia creeping back in, but only once down to 3 mg Valium and below.

Thanks for the reply Greg.  Maybe I'll try sticking strictly to the ashton manual for the klonopin and taking all the vallium at night.
