Sometimes cited as the ‘first’ rock ‘n roll record, this performing group
was actually Ike Turner’s Kings of Rhythm, with which Brenston was
singer and saxophonist. The title refers to the recently-introduced
“Rocket 88” model Oldsmobile. More information about the song

Hound Dog was written by Leiber and Stoller in 1952, and it was a
big hit for Big Mama Thornton in 1953, though this particular
performance seems to be from the mid 1960s.
