[La...]
As is happening everywhere it seems, "The use of antidepressants has continued to rise despite accumulating evidence that they are not as effective as was previously thought." So says this 2016 article from the Medical Journal of Australia. https://www.mja.com.au/journal/2016/204/9/unfulfilled-promise-antidepressant-medications?platform=hootsuite
[...]
Thanks, Lap. I've just listened to the podcast of the interview, easier for me than reading. It's good at least he's acknowledging how the drug companies manipulate the results of the trials. And this, of note, too .. "The pharmaceutical industry has scaled back investment in developing new drugs for mental illnesses, mainly because of so many development failures,27 and it is unlikely that we will see new medications with substantially greater effectiveness in the coming years." https://www.mja.com.au/multimedia/podcasts?utm_source=mja&utm_medium=web&utm_campaign=related_content#2016-05-15T07_54_06-07_00 There's this one further down that also sounds interesting, (haven't listened yet) - "MJA Podcasts 2016 Episode 17: Reporting adverse events in Phase IV trials"
[La...]
Yes, abcd, I remember reading that line about less investment for drugs for mental illness and feeling relieved. Finally, perhaps they'll stop using people as guinea pigs to try out meds that do more harm than good.
