Health Canada Advises Consumers to Stop Taking Sleepees

“The herbal sleeping remedy known as Sleepees, distributed by Our World Network in Vancouver, BC, contained an undeclared drug, estazolam, a habit-forming class of drugs known as benzodiazepines, such as Valium (diazepam), Restoril (temazepam) and Ativan (Lorazepam).”

“Last week Health Canada advised consumers not to use Sleepees, ordered an immediate recall and advised consumers to consult with their health care professionals before they stop taking the capsules because of the risk of withdrawal symptoms.”

“The product Sleepees is advertised as an herbal sleep aid and is not authorized for sale in Canada. It should also be recalled in the US, and adverse events reports have been filed with the FDA. Consumers who have purchased Sleepees should return the product to the place of purchase: Our World Network in Vancouver, BC. To date, no adverse reactions suspected to be associated with the use of this product have been reported in Canada.

 

Health Canada also advises Canadians to contact the Health Products and Food Branch Inspectorate at 1-800-267-9675 if they find Sleepees for sale in Canada.
