Poetry may make us from time to time a little more aware of the deeper, unnamed feelings

which form the substratum of our being, to which we rarely penetrate;

for our lives are mostly a constant evasion of ourselves.

- T. S. Eliot

I've been absolutely terrified every moment of my life -

and I've never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.

I decided to start anew, to strip away what I had been taught.

Georgia O'Keeffe

I READ THIS A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO, AND THE FIRST THING THAT STUCK ME WAS THE STEM WITH 2 LEAVES. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF THIS IS A STEM THAT HAS BEEN STRIPPED OF EVERYTHING AND LEFT WITH ONLY 2 OF WHAT I CAN IMAGINE OR CHOOSE TO IMAGINE ARE GREEN LEAVES.

HMMM, AND NOW THE STEM IS IN WATER.

WILL IT ROOT ITSELF IF LEFT LONG ENOUGH?  I WOULD LIKE TO THINK SO.

I SUPPOSE I AM LIKE THE STEM...I HAVE BEEN LEFT WITH A MIND AND A BODY (2 LEAVES) I'M TRYING TO RE*ROOT MYSELF, RE*GROW WHAT HAS BEEN DAMAGED, AND I WILL; HOWEVER, LIKE EVERYTHING THAT IS NEW...IT TAKES TIME, AND WITH TIME...ONE DAY...I WILL LOOK LIKE THIS AGAIN!

THE BEAUTIFUL MIGHTY OAK...

IT STANDS STURDY AND STRONG...

IT'S BRANCHES ARE OUTREACHING...

IT CAN WITH STAND WIND, RAIN, AND STORM...

LOVE AND CONTINUED HEALING TO ALL...

QUEEN ANNE'S LACE

Her body is not so white as

anemone petals nor so smooth--nor

so remote a thing. It is a field

of the wild carrot taking

thefield by force; the grass

does not raise above it.

Here is no question of whiteness,

white as can be, with a purple mole

at the center of each flower.

Each flower is a hand's span

of her whiteness. Wherever

his hand has lain there is

a tiny purple blossom under his touch

to which the fibres of her being

stem one by one, each to its end,

until the whole field is a

white desire, empty, a single stem,

a cluster, flower by flower,

a pious wish to whiteness gone over--

or nothing...

A few more along the same line:

It's the weight of expectation that's the hardest to deal with, really, from my point of view.

To free us from the expectations of others,

to give us back to ourselves -

there lies the great, singular power of self-respect.

My happiness grows in direct proportion to my acceptance,

"Love After Love"

by Derek Walcott

The time will come

when, with elation

you will greet yourself arriving

at your own door, in your own mirror

and each will smile at the other's welcome,

and say, sit here. Eat.

You will love again the stranger who was your self.

Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart

to itself, to the stranger who has loved you

all your life, whom you ignored

for another, who knows you by heart.

Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,

the photographs, the desperate notes,

peel your own image from the mirror.

Sit. Feast on your life.

What a wonderful way to start(end) my day...a trying night, but it ends with a lift...the doubt of self is dissolved in the waters of healing words...thank you for that...tex

INSM, MY DEAR SWEET SISTER FRIEND,

I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN FIND THE WORDS TO EXPRESS HOW THIS POEM MAKES ME FEEL...

THE WORDS ARE SO POWERFUL, AND TRUE, AND BEAUTIFUL!

I CAN FEEL THEM DEEP DOWN INSIDE...GRABBING AT MY CORE.

I CAN SEE MYSELF IN EVERY WORD OF THIS POEM!

HOPEFUL...THAT'S WHAT IT IS...HOPEFULLNESS IN A NEW LIFE WAITING TO BE REDISCOVERED!

THANK YOU WITH LOVE!

One has to accept pain as a condition of existence.

One has to court doubt and darkness as the cost of knowing.

One needs a will stubborn in conflict, but apt always to the total acceptance of every consequence of living and dying.

'Tis known by the name of perseverance in a good cause, and of obstinacy in a bad one.

Most of my life has been spent trying to shrink myself. Trying to become smaller. Quieter. Less sensitive. Less opinionated. Less needy. Less me. Because I didn't want to be a burden. I didn't want to be too much or push people away. I wanted people to like me. I wanted to be cared for and valued. I wanted to be wanted. So for years, I sacrificed myself for the sake of making other people happy. And for years, I suffered. But I'm tired of suffering, and I'm done shrinking. It's not my job to change who I am in order to become someone else's idea of a worthwhile human being. I am worthwhile. Not because other people think I am, but because I exist, and therefore I matter. My thoughts matter. My feelings matter. My voice matters. And with or without anyone's permission or approval, I will continue to be who I am and speak my truth. Even if it makes people angry. Even if it makes them uncomfortable. Even if they choose to leave. I refuse to shrink. I choose to take up space. I choose to honour my feelings. I choose to give myself permission to get my needs met. I choose to make self-care a priority. I choose me.

Who can see inside the deepest recesses of your imagination and manifest those wishes into your daily experience? Who can appreciate those subtle nuances of character you've acquired by overcoming your deepest fears? Who can truly respect those things that are no longer a part of you because of all your work to release them? Who can see the strength left behind in the wake of your unique struggles and obstacles? Who will see you for who you are, appreciating everything that is there, everything that is not, everything that can be, if you do not? Who else can?
