What can I expect? Switching over tonight

[Th...]

Recommended Posts

So I basically called and "bullied" my way into getting an appointment ASAP. (tonight), and am going to be switching off of my Clonazepam to a different one. Am I going to expect to have to take both for a while or what? I leave in about 25 minutes. How should I ask? Or should I just tell him what's been going on and let him make the suggestion? I really want to ask for either Librium or Diazapam. Come on buddies, help me out here. I need to do this but, again, don't want to be seen like I am looking for specific drugs. I've never done this before.

Absolutely nothing wrong with looking for specific drugs. Over the years I've done exactly that, armed with a goal and a strong rationale. Drs were always compliant. Some even came right out and asked me "ok, what do you want.?"

I believe Librium only comes in capsules.  Someone please correct me if I am wrong.  However, Librium is water soluble and ideal for water titration.  Dry cutting, not so much.  For this reason, I would opt to go with Valium because titration or dry cutting are both options.  Plus, Valium tablets come in very low doses which makes the mechanics of tapering a bit easier.

Well it went horribly awry. I told him  my story and he said "What do you MEAN it isn't working. You ARE ON A HIGH DOSE. Klonopin is one of the best medications for your condition". Then I told him about the research and info I've found and he actually cussed me out and discharged me as a patient, discontinued my meds and as I was getting up to leave, I kid you not, he said "I am the doctor. The internet are not the doctors, good luck finding someone else around here", Now I REALLY don't know what to do.

I'm so sorry, keep looking for a doc who will help you. This one doesn't have a clue.

Makes me sick, what an a&#hole. I'm sorry for your situation

Benzos suck and so do ignorant doctors

Most have no idea what these do to us and we're left to fend for ourselves

My personality has been corrupted, and confidence destroyed. Its hard for me to even talk to doctors now, and so the balance of control shifts over to the doctors and Icant stick up for my self  l. Just left to suffer greatl

You could simply say ...that after reading the Ashton. Manual and other research you wa t to taper in. more potentially successful way and the current research suggests using valium as a cross over has proven effective as slow tapered w/d is less likely to fail or reinstate...and you are committed to taking an approach that you feel you can stick to...and you want his professional support and supervision.... good luck....hoping for you that you get what you need.  cooperten

Dear This...so sorry you are in a y way exposed to this jerk....do whatever you need to do to get professional support that is educated on w/d and compassionate. ..Leave this creep...If you live in a city ( or close to a city) that has a university...call their health sciences program and ask for a directory of physicians treating benzo w/d ....there may even be therspists etc at the university serving student health concerns....even if you are not a student it might be a good starting point to finding progressive current informed health care professionals....so sorry this is happening to you. Will you be able to stay current with your refills? .... you deserve compassionate care..cooperten

Another drug pusher realizing he won't be getting business from you and telling you not to pick up the drugs from him anymore. He doesn't care about your well-being, just cares if he's making money. He's not even sure what the drugs do, supposed to be helping your "condition.  :tickedoff:

Well thanks for the info and support. I do have another appt. with a different doctor but not a university campus, though one is available. I called the local university medical center actually, and the lady said they don't prescribe any type of narcotic anxiety medications or mood stabilizers. When you set up doctors appointments down here, the first thing they ask is what medications you are on. When I say Klonopin they immediately say something to the effect of "Well our doctors have a policy against that class of medication and any other narcotic medication". Hopefully this new doctor will be more helpful.  I was really stunned. I mean he could have at least feigned being professional. I found out from someone I know, that used to see him at a different facility, is that he was fired. Not sure why but I guess not seeing him now, from what I was told, is a positive thing if I look at it that way.

My doctor told me to quit cold turkey or if I really felt I needed to taper break them in half every other night.  Crazy.  Anyway I mentioned the Ashton Manual, which he never heard of, and said I wanted to cross over to Diazepam f& that I must be one of the sensitive ones.  He said no problem.  I'm down to 2 mg as of a week ago & tapering every 2 weeks.

An unfortunate and extreme response from this ego-maniac of a doctor. I have come across some physicians that feel very threatened when a patient may "recommend" something; they become intimidated. It is as if, they, the DR. know best and the patient knows nothing and cannot provide any input. These type of Drs are out there and on your first visit you can always smell this type out. Run like hell!!

A good patient doctor relationship is mutually interdependent. And learning occurs in both directions. Some doctors seem to forget this. Take the time to find a good doctor, please.

Show them Ashton and ask for diazepam due to its long half life.

The crossover to diazepam from klono went smooth in the early stages.

I may try that. I got in trouble for asking for another type of benzo though. How do you guys just straight up ask for a specific drug? I see it so many times on here, I tried it and got thrown out.

I get the feeling the doctors you interact with may interpret your actions as drug seeking behavior. Do they?

I can see several things they may pick up on. The history in your sig that seems to indicate you start taking benzos about once a year after being off them for for a number of weeks to months, second that you "run out early" (makes be think you may take more than prescribed), third that you seem to be seeking different doctors to get back on them.

Sorry if I'm way off, but if this is the impression I'm getting from info you volunteer, your doctors may be getting similar impressions.

I've realized this. This is why I get so concerned over appearing that way these days. Yes, my psychiatrist did mismanage me but I did not really know anything about this medication, or as much as I know now since doing research and joining Benzo buddies. Now, I have always kept the same PCP and I do see specialists. I've never got duplicate prescriptions but here is how I painted myself as that type of person. Although I have mental issues that I have been prescribed it for, I have cervical dystonia that I need the medication for. I do not like this medication but I need it. The time I ran out early was when my old psychiatrist had me on a higher dose that I couldn't take intermittently throughout the day but got that taken care of by explaining it. I also have taken myself off cold turkey multiple times because I wanted to and against medical advice which were very bad moves. Now I am in this situation. I can't totally blame my doctors but I can see why it would be interpreted that way. I keep trying to find alternate methods when I've come off but have yet to find a doctor or a medication to stop my symptoms from my cervical dystonia. I don't doctor shop, but I am adamant to find a doctor who can offer a better course of treatment. Even though I tell them who all I see and what all I am on, I, again, can see how it is perceived. Now I just have to fix that. I admit I am partially to blame myself.
