Tapering from Etizolam

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I joined the site a while back but haven't been on for a while so I thought I'd introduce myself again and ask for and offer support.

I suffer from major anxiety and for the past 6 months I've been taking a benzo called Etizolam which I've been buying from the internet. Here's a link to the wiki page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etizolam

Technically it's not a benzo but a thienodiazepine, but works in the same way. It's legal to buy and possess.

When I first started taking it I was taking 1mg as and when needed (which is advertsied as equivalent to 10mg Diazepam). My tolerance quickly built though and before I knew it I was taking it daily at doses of over 20mg a day.

I've been trying to come off them for a while now but every time I do I experience huge panic attacks and chest pain. I've been to the hospital and all tests have come back clear.

I know the best way to come off is to taper but I don't know whether I should just go cold turkey. The reason I say that is because I don't 100% know what's in the tablets I've been taking because they've been coming from the internet. They could be some other sort of tranquilliser or could actually be doing my body harm.

Any advice anyone could give would be much appreciated :-)

Hi

I took Etizolam for for a short time. It's called Depas in Japan where I live, I think that you will find it is a Benzo or something VERY close and has the same chemical properties as or close to Valium. I don't know what the half life of it is but I do know it's quick acting and highly addictive. If, I were taking this I would get professional advise as to how to taper and whether you should cross to another Benzo to do the taper.  Good luck David

Hi Stater

I was taking this medication as much as I needed for about 10 years.

Many times I did OD.

I didn't know that this medication is so bad for a long time then I was believing All of my new symptoms are because of my own condition, but now I know this medication caused so much trouble in my life.

I completely stopped this medication 7/January/2013 Around this time I was taking 6 to 8mg Etizolam a day.

I changed to bromazepam for a couple weeks before I went to Diazepam(Valium)

The reason why Etizolam  stays in body for a short time and Diazepam stays for a long time.

Bromazepam is middle.

Now I am on Diazepam to taper.

My psychiatrist is not helpful at all about these medications so I have to do it by myself.

I am following Ashuton's manual,  http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/index.htm

but It is not talking about Etizolam so I needed to search on internet about the same amount of action between Etizolam and others.

As my search Etizolam 1.5mg = Bromazepam 2.5mg = Diazepam(Valium) 5mg

If you are taking 20mg Etizolam a day then Its about Diazepam 66.5mg

But, if you are taking this much of Etizolam everyday, You really need to be careful when you try to tape or change med.

I recommend you to ask specialist before you start taping If these is good one for you.

Also you can check taping schedule on Ashuton's manual.

As my research Etizolam is not good med for tape.

>I experience huge panic attacks and chest pain.

Yes I am same.  Every morning I had to run to get water and meds as soon as I am awake for a couple years to stop this huge panic with heart pain.

Now I don't have this much, but I still have so many symptoms and am fighting everyday.

Hope you can start taping and getting your health back.

Please take care.

Hi again.

The wiki said 1mg Etizolam is 10mg Diazepam.

I have checked before.

When I checked to change med from Etizolam it was

Japanese infos. Sorry if I made you comfused.

But now I am really worrying about you

coz you are taking a lot.Thats dangerous but also

Cutting off quickly is very dangerous.

Etizolam is very addicted med.

I became sicker and sicker in this 10years.

Can you find a specialist to help your taper plan?

I really hope you can chage to another meds from

Etizolam.

How is your feeling when you take the mount of meds?

I really hope you are ok.

I know this med very well thats why I am worrying now.

  • 1 year later...

I thought I'd give my quick experience with my Etizolam taper...

It hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought. I've been making sure to take less and less each day. Within two weeks I went from averaging 2 - 3 MGs a day to 1 MG a day.

Effects weren't fun at first, but I got through through it. I'm not cutting pills to go down to .75 mgs a day. I take my doses in the AM and at night..

The interpose withdrawals are pretty much gone.

Stay string!

@MrSpock, did you taper from 0.75mg to 0mg? How did you do it? Can we taper Etizolam faster than other benzos as it has a short half-life? Thank you.
