Tapering .5mg Klonopin

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, long story short, I’m finally feeling stable enough to start a slow taper from .5mg Klonopin.  I asked Chat GPT to create a taper schedule.  Please don’t judge 😁

Does this seem reasonable?  Has anyone else successfully dry tapered off of Klonopin?  Did you have to go slower at the end?  I know everyone is different. After 2 S attempts after a rapid taper and cold turkey last time, I am scared, I must admit.

“Sure, here's a taper schedule for tapering off Klonopin by 5% each month and 2.5% every two weeks, starting from 0.170 grams down to zero:

Week 1: 0.1615 grams
Week 2: 0.153 grams
Week 3: 0.1445 grams
Week 4: 0.1365 grams
Week 5: 0.1295 grams
Week 6: 0.1225 grams
Week 7: 0.116 grams
Week 8: 0.1095 grams
Week 9: 0.103 grams
Week 10: 0.0975 grams
Week 11: 0.092 grams
Week 12: 0.0865 grams
Week 13: 0.082 grams
Week 14: 0.0775 grams
Week 15: 0.073 grams
Week 16: 0.0695 grams
Week 17: 0.0655 grams
Week 18: 0.0615 grams
Week 19: 0.058 grams
Week 20: 0.0545 grams
Week 21: 0.0515 grams
Week 22: 0.0485 grams
Week 23: 0.0455 grams
Week 24: 0.043 grams
Week 25: 0.0405 grams
Week 26: 0.038 grams
Week 27: 0.0355 grams
Week 28: 0.0335 grams
Week 29: 0.0315 grams
Week 30: 0.0295 grams
Week 31: 0.0275 grams
Week 32: 0.0255 grams
Week 33: 0.024 grams
Week 34: 0.0225 grams
Week 35: 0.021 grams
Week 36: 0.0195 grams
Week 37: 0.0185 grams
Week 38: 0.017 grams
Week 39: 0.0155 grams
Week 40: 0.0145 grams
Week 41: 0.0135 grams
Week 42: 0.0125 grams
Week 43: 0.0115 grams
Week 44: 0.0105 grams
Week 45: 0.0095 grams
Week 46: 0.0085 grams
Week 47: 0.0075 grams
Week 48: 0.0065 grams
Week 49: 0.0055 grams
Week 50: 0.0045 grams
Week 51: 0.0035 grams
Week 52: 0.0025 grams
Week 53: 0.0015 grams
Week 54: 0.0005 grams
Week 55: 0 grams”

I wish I could just hand this over to a compound pharmacy so I don’t have to even think about it.  I almost feel like that would help with symptoms.  At least the psychological part of it.  I want to “set it and forget it.”  😭 I also know my body may not like 5% a month consistently… ugh.  Idk.

any advice is appreciated!!! 🫶

Hi,
I am also phasing out 0.5 mg Clonazepam and am doing it the same way. 5% every two weeks and sometimes I stay on that a little longer. I have no advice because i'm also searching as well, but I think this schedule is ok.
I hope some members respond who have more experience with it.
Good luck

Greetings Angelique

I think that chat gpt is maybe wrong with this schedule. Like it is written it looks like 5% reduction every week. But if someone can check this out would be good, my mind is overwhelmed right now.

Good catch, @[No...].  The Chat GPT schedule would result in a 19.7% reduction in dose for the first month (from 0.170 grams to 0.1356 grams).

Hello !
I am new here . I started tapering klonopin in June 2023 . By 0.25 once monthly . I was on 1 mg in am and 2 mg pm . Recently hit .5 am and .5 pm , and having some minor panic attacks , nausea , sweating , anxiety !! . It got bad at 1 mg daily .. oh man . I am sticking this out until I feel better . I have a few hundred mgs of gabapentin on board , I am a pharmacist . I don’t believe I should continue 0.25 mg decrease anymore . It hurts ! Anyone have advice ? Thought I would try 0.125 mg ODT tabs maybe ? Slow it down more ? Anyone have any good drug ideas with less addiction potential to suppress these symptoms ? I hear lyrica off label is showing good results . Hit me back . Ty .

Hello @[so...], welcome to BenzoBuddies,

I’m so sorry to hear how much you’re suffering but I feel you’ve correctly determined it’s time to slow down.  Most everyone has to slow things down as they get lower in dose, so please listen to your body on this.

I like the idea of using the .125 ODT’s, we have members who cut them to make them even smaller but for now, I feel it’s important to hold this dose until you stabilize.  This doesn’t mean feeling great, it means being able to take care of your basic daily needs.  It also mean a stabilization of symptoms, new ones aren’t appearing and old ones are holding steady.

As far as medications go, you may hear from other members about what helps them but it’s very individual, we never know if a medication that helps one will help another.

We’re glad you found us and hope we can help you through this.
