flumazenil compounding sublingual Pharmacy

Recommended Posts

My doctor who is experienced in working with benzos wants to have Flumazenil compounded in to troches and microdose them to help with my taper.

does anyone know of any pharmacies that do this or anyone that has?

This post indicates there are only two sources and I cannot find them and my doctor does not have time to call every compounding pharmacy in the US

If you’re here to tell me this is a bad idea, or give me warnings I would like to gracefully say my benzo withdrawal specialist who is a doctor and specializes in this area thinks this is the absolute best way to go.  So please save your replies in that case. Thank you!

Just checking …

Are you aware that flumazenil is a benzodiazepine antagonist that can reverse the binding of benzodiazepines to benzodiazepine receptors?  It’s used to reverse benzodiazepine overdose and postoperative sedation from benzodiazepine anesthetics (e.g. Versed/midazolam).  Think of it like a cold turkey cocktail.

The research literature on the use of flumazenil as an intervention during benzo withdrawal is sparse and low quality.  For example, one small study found it did not significantly reduce benzo use compared to placebo.  Another study found it did result in significant reduction in use but only among individuals who were taking a high dose (i.e., 30mg or more of diazepam).

My doctor is very aware of this. I said microdose. Since my doctor is taking the reins I am simply asking for a compound pharmacy that does this So it’s far different than cold turkey. My dose is far higher than 30mg of diazapam. It’s beyond double that.

Thank you for your concern.

Please be safe and be well.  This sounds very dangerous.  Always consider a second opinion before treatment.
