Ani DiFranco - To the Teeth

To the Teeth

Ani DiFranco

The sun is setting on the century

And we are armed to the teeth

We're all working together now

To make our lives mercifully brief

And school kids keep trying to teach us

What guns are all about

Confused liberty with weaponry

And watch your kids act it out

And every year now like Christmas

Some boy gets the milk fed suburban blues

Reaches for the available arsenal

And saunters off to make the news

And the women in the middle

Are learning what poor women have always known

That the edge is closer than you think

When your men bring the guns home

And look at where the profits are, yeah

That's how you'll find the source

Of the big lie that you and I both know so well

In the time it takes this cultural death wish to run its course

They're gonna to make a pretty penny

And then they're all going to hell

And he said the chickens all come home to roost

Yeah, Malcolm forecasted this flood

Are we really going to sleep through another century

While the rich profit off our blood?

And true, may take some doing

To see this undoing through

But in my humble opinion

Here's what I suggest we do

Open fire on Hollywood

Open fire on MTV

Open fire on NBC and CBS and ABC

Open fire on the NRA

And all the lies they told us along the way

Open fire on each weapons manufacturer

While he's giving head to some Republican senator

And if I hear one more time

About a fool's right to his tools of rage

I'm gonna take all my friends

And I'm going to move to Canada

And we're going to die of old age

Smiling Faces

Kevin Gates

Say bro, I love you 'til death but bitch you gon hit it

Or you gonna lay on top of it

Just got the word from above, placing my heart in this message

Evil is after your soul, people smart with deceptions

Keep the sharp observation, allowing no infiltration

Of those you let in your circle

They get the chance, they gon' hurt you

They be counting your pockets, you can tell by they comments

Incident with my car, my nigga wanted to drive it

I told him no, he flashed out, texting my phone talking violent

And told me put him in a song and he was catchin a body

God protected my body, I fear no nigga breathin

I feel like David and Goliath, a hungry pack of hyaenas

Showing they teeth when I'm eating

Do it look like I'm cheesing?

Took my lick like a man

Then came home to the streets

No defeat!

When everyone's around I bet you had a ball

Killing emotional attachments with the alcohol

They say they love you and that for you they do anything

You find it awkward that their eyes don't say the same thing

Changing lately, beware of smiling faces

Entangling, betraying, beware of smiling faces

These murders weigh on my conscious as I take too many showers

I need a woman to hold me, help me forget all my problems

It 5 a.m in Toronto, she down here for college

She says a major psychology would both into astrology

This moscato was sweet, inhaling sticks of this broccoli

Hard to sleep on the side of me, seem too much is bothering me

Memories haunting me, jumping up out my sleep

She might say "Babe it's ok" - then put me straight back to sleep

I do this three of four times, my life on constant repeat

Reason I can't quit syrup, my anxiety be fucking with me

Every bitch I'm with, find out I ain't shit

After three weeks of just fucking with me

Its a fucked up feeling when you looking in the mirror

And everybody in the mirror pretending they fucking with me

Who fucking with me?!

When everyone's around I bet you had a ball

Killing emotional attachments with the alcohol

They say they love you and that for you they do anything

You find it awkward that their eyes don't say the same thing

Changing lately, beware of smiling faces

Entangling, betraying, beware of smiling faces

REM - Everybody Hurts

When the day is long

And the night, the night is yours alone

When you're sure you've had enough

Of this life, well hang on

Don't let yourself go

'Cause everybody cries

And everybody hurts sometimes

Sometimes everything is wrong

Now it's time to sing along

When your day is night alone (Hold on, hold on)

If you feel like letting go (Hold on)

If you think you've had too much

Of this life, well hang on

'Cause everybody hurts

Take comfort in your friends

Everybody hurts

Don't throw your hand, oh no

Don't throw your hand

If you feel like you're alone

No, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life

The days and nights are long

When you think you've had too much of this life to hang on

Well, everybody hurts sometimes

Everybody cries

And everybody hurts sometimes

And everybody hurts sometimes

So hold on, hold on

Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on

Everybody hurts

No, no, no, no you are not alone

Pearl Jam - Indifference

[Verse 1]

I will light the match this morning so I won't be alone

Watch as she lies silent for soon night will be gone

Oh, I will stand arms outstretched. Pretend I'm free to roam

Oh, I will make my way through one more day in hell

[Chorus]

How much difference does it make?

[Verse 2]

I will hold the candle 'til it burns up my arm

Oh, I'll keep taking punches until their will grows tired

Oh, I will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind

Hey, I won't change direction and I won't change my mind

[Chorus]

How much difference does it make?[x2]

[Verse 3]

I'll swallow poison until I grow immune

I will scream my lungs out 'til it fills this room

[Chorus]

How much difference[x3]

How much difference does it make?

I've been on the low

I been taking my time

I feel like I'm out of my mind

It feel like my life ain't mine

Who can relate?

I've been on the low

I been taking my time

I feel like I'm out of my mind

It feel like my life ain't mine

I don't wanna be alive

I don't wanna be alive

I just wanna die today

I just wanna die

I don't wanna be alive

I don't wanna be alive

I just wanna die

And let me tell you why

All this other shit I'm talkin' 'bout they think they know it

I've been praying for somebody to save me, no one's heroic

And my life don’t even matter

I know it, I know it, I know I'm hurting deep down but can’t show it

I never had a place to call my own

I never had a home

Ain't nobody callin' my phone

Where you been? Where you at? What's on your mind?

They say every life precious but nobody care about mine

I've been on the low

I been taking my time

I feel like I'm out of my mind

It feel like my life ain't mine

Who can relate?

I've been on the low

I been taking my time

I feel like I'm out of my mind

It feel like my life ain't mine

I want you to be alive

I want you to be alive

You don't gotta die today

You don't gotta die

I want you to be alive

I want you to be alive

You don't gotta die

Now lemme tell you why

It's the very first breath

When your head's been drowning underwater

And it's the lightness in the air

When you're there

Chest to chest with a lover

It's holding on, though the road's long

And seeing light in the darkest things

And when you stare at your reflection

Finally knowing who it is

I know that you'll thank God you did

I know where you been, where you are, where you goin'

I know you're the reason I believe in life

What's the day without a little night?

I'm just tryna shed a little light

It can be hard

It can be so hard

But you gotta live right now

You got everything to give right now

I've been on the low

I been taking my time

I feel like I'm out of my mind

It feel like my life ain't mine

Who can relate?

I've been on the low

I been taking my time

I feel like I'm out of my mind

It feel like my life ain't mine

I finally wanna be alive (finally wanna be alive)

I finally wanna be alive

I don't wanna die today (hey)

I don't wanna die

I finally wanna be alive (finally wanna be alive)

I finally wanna be alive (oh)

I don't wanna die (no, I don't wanna die)

I don't wanna die

(I just wanna live)

(I just wanna live)

Pain don't hurt the same, I know

The lane I travel feels alone

But I'm moving 'til my legs give out

And I see my tears melt in the snow

But I don't wanna cry

I don't wanna cry anymore

I wanna feel alive

I don't even wanna die anymore

Oh I don’t wanna

I don’t wanna

I don’t even wanna die anymore

Andrew Bird - Truth Lies Low

But just because a person speaks clearly a few times on a serious crime against humanity out of her own immense and twisted (tortured)  pain and suffering so the outside word can see—

does not mean she does not know (that truth lies low) or necessarily has much of an inflated ego at all... but that is for me to  :idiot: and those of you so concerned about it to find

Truth Lies Low - Andrew Bird

Here’s a little game

You can play along

Where you do the walk of shame

From the comfort of your home

So here’s another game

You can play along

Where you empty all your blame

From your guilty bones

Well the eyes, the eyes, the eyes they know

Like a thousand tiny suns aglo

While the eyes, the eyes, the eyes they know

Watch you lie slow

While truth lies low

So here’s another game

Fools are taking aim

They got pistols in their phones

Holocene is one the wane

We got plastic in our stones

Well the lies, the lies, the lies, they grow

Like a thousand tributaries flow

Oh the icy, icy, eyes you know

While truth lies low

While truth lies low

Vitriol from their pens flows

Anonymously their hate grows

But at least they care enough

At least they care enough

At least they care enough

To let you know

Leon Bridges - River

Been traveling these wide roads for so long

My heart’s been far from you

Ten-thousand miles gone

Oh, I wanna come near and give ya

Every part of me

But there's blood on my hands

And my lips aren’t clean

In my darkness I remember

Momma’s words reoccur to me

"Surrender to the good Lord

And he’ll wipe your slate clean"

Take me to your river

I wanna go

Oh, go on

Take me to your river

I wanna know

Tip me in your smooth waters

I go in

As a man with many crimes

Come up for air

As my sins flow down the Jordan

Oh, I wanna come near and give ya

Every part of me

But there's blood on my hands

And my lips aren’t clean

Take me to your river

I wanna go

Go on,

Take me to your river

I wanna know

I wanna go, wanna go, wanna go

I wanna know, wanna know, wanna know

Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go

Wanna know, wanna know, wanna know

Wanna go, wanna go, wanna go

Wanna know, wanna know, wanna know

Take me to your river

I wanna go

Lord, please let me know

Take me to your river

I wanna know

Wish You Were Here

Pink Floyd

So, so you think you can tell

Heaven from hell

Blue skies from pain

Can you tell a green field

From a cold steel rail?

A smile from a veil?

Do you think you can tell?

Did they get you to trade

Your heroes for ghosts?

Hot ashes for trees?

Hot air for a cool breeze?

Cold comfort for change?

Did you exchange

A walk on part in the war

For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here

We're just two lost souls

Swimming in a fish bowl

Year after year

Running over the same old ground

And how we found

The same old fears

Wish you were here

"The Winner Takes It All" - ABBA

This is such a good song about moving on and starting over.  From music perspective, this is arguably ABBA's most critically acclaimed piece.

I don't wanna talk

About things we've gone through

Though it's hurting me

Now it's history

I've played all my cards

And that's what you've done, too

Nothing more to say

No more ace to play

The winner takes it all

The loser standing small

.....

I don't want to talk

If it makes you feel sad

And I understand

You've come to shake my hand

I apologize

If it makes you feel bad

Seeing me so tense

No self-confidence

But you see

The winner takes it all

Thanks for the ABBA reminder, Ginger127. I remember being a little kid (about 4 or 5) and had a Money, Money, Money single. But the B side had "Knowing me, knowing you", and I fell in love with that song right then and there. The melody was just beautiful and perfect, and it is still one of my ABBA favorites. "The Winner Takes it All" is one amazing song, as well

Thanks LorazepamFree2015, oh my, that's amazing! I was also about 5 years old when ' Money, Money, Money' was released in 1976, and then 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' followed in 1977, what incredible voice harmonies on that one!  Gotta love ABBA, they did some amazing work!  Still got some vinyls.

Hey Hey Helen is another nice song by ABBA. But somehow, I like the cover by the band Lush a bit better. Their vocal ranges are not even close to ABBA, but the dreamy, hazy and textured dual guitar assault is music to my ears.

Actualy, each version is great in its own way. It's fun to play one after another just for the fun of it :). ABBA goes with the power chords on the guitar, where Lush's is just a textured droning guitar free-fall.

Lush Version

https://youtu.be/MCR1zPLAICE

Original Version

"Hey Hey Helen"

So at last you're free

It's the way you wanted it to be

And the price you paid

To become a woman of today

Is it worth the pain to see the children cry

Does it hurt when they ask for Daddy

Hey hey Helen

Now you live on your own

Hey hey Helen

Can you make it alone

(Yes you can)

So you're free at last

And beginning to forget the past

Does it make you sad

When you think about the life you ha-ha-had

But you're right, you had to take a second chance

So you fight to find your freedom

Hey hey Helen

Now you live on your own

Hey hey Helen

Can you make it alone

Hey hey Helen (hey hey Helen)

What's the matter with you

Hey hey Helen (hey hey Helen)

Don't you know what to do

(Yes you do)

(Ahah, yes you do yes you do)

(Ahah, yes you do yes you do)

Hey hey Helen

Now you live on your own

Hey hey Helen

Can you make it alone

Hey hey Helen (hey hey Helen)

What's the matter with you

Hey hey Helen (hey hey Helen)

Don't you know what to do

Hey hey Helen (hey hey Helen)

Now you live on your own

Hey hey Helen (hey hey Helen)

Thanks, Ginger127. Looks like we're only 2 years apart, actually. The same generation, basically. And it seems that we both got on Ativan in our late 30's. I'm not sure what is it abot benzos getting a grip on men in their late 30's. Maybe the whole "Boys Don't Cry" routine where we are not allowed to express our emotions, so we bury them deep. I am very happy you're off. Wish I got off before the severe agoraphobia hit hard. But speaking about boys and crying, may as well....
