My Paints are Magical. My Painting, Not So Much!

Finally broke out the watercolors and tried my hand again. I have to say both were a complete fail until I used ink and drew on them. They're still not exactly fresh or exciting but I guess serviceable is a good word.

Honestly inking them was a LOT more fun than laying down the color. It was a pretty good distraction. I've been in an afternoon wave for the past year, and even drawing was tough. TV was worse, and eating awful. When I couldn't draw any more I went outside and took some photos. Gonna use them to inform my next painting.

I'm posting them because it gives me a reason to complete them. Right now it's easy to let things slide but it's not a good habit so I'm working at completing things. Here goes!

Here is the first one. This one just came out of my head, which is almost always a mistake!

Now for the second one. I thought it was bound to be better because I painted it from life; it's a corner in a nearby park.

But no, not really any better. It's a bit story-booky. It doesn't kill me. I'm learning from my mistakes.

It's beautiful, Hotcold. It looks Japanese to me. Don't know why.

They’re beautiful, how long have you been painting?  I’m so glad posting them here helped give you a reason to finish.

Thank you Oregonkatz, it's really nice of you to say that. I feel really disappointed in them but have started something else. Just need to feel a bit better and I'll soldier on with that. At certain stages it's really a good distraction! :smitten:

Hi Pamster, I went to art school, so I've pretty much been painting for most of my life. Haven't painted at all in the past two years so these feel really amateurish to me but I need to do them anyway! I've been having a good day here and there, so that's when I paint. I really am glad you sort of 'stopped in'!! It's always nice to see 'Pamster' on a post!

They sure don’t look amateurish to this amateur but I can understand you thinking this, I hope the stupid benzo isn’t whispering to you.

I’ve didn’t know about inking, but what a great way to give it that finished look.   I used to watch Bob Ross and enjoyed seeing paintings come from nothing on a canvas.  I was sure he’d messed it up by putting a blob here or there but they always came out looking wonderful.  Sometimes I’ll watch video’s, they’re soothing to me, I’m in awe of talent like yours.

I’m going to keep stopping by to see what you’re up to, your blog is fascinating. It’s a nice respite from some of the heavier topics we deal with here, so thank you.

I think anyone who takes the effort of actually creating something is wonderful!  You make me want to try painting :smitten: If you only knew how un-artistic I am you would have to laugh.  I would be lucky to create a pick of a stick-person ;) but just to try it as I love colors, and get so frustrated with mere photographs, which I'm not very good at either.  They can never be what the eye can see, but with painting, it comes from inside a person, their memory or their thoughts.  I can see that you see beauty and lovely things, but you're hard on yourself, which I understand that.  I have to have everything perfect, but you shared something you've created, and to me, it's wonderful ♥️

You've encouraged me to try and create something, what ? I don't know yet :2funny: but I'm excited to find out if it might help me in my tapering, and eventual recovery ;) Denise

I hope you do! You never know where an ability might lie. Could be you're better at three-dimensional things, like pottery or knitting. Could be writing! Go for it!
