Meet my Chair.

Finished!

I should probably add this to the previous blog post, but here it is. There were so many steps (and so many steps backward!) that I'm fast-forwarding from start to finish line. It's been an exercise in not getting discouraged even when recovery-tired (which sleep doesn't fix yet!), even when I made mistakes and also when I wanted to drop-kick the chair down the stairs. I didn't.

Now I have to figure out where it will live in the house!

Hmm. That got cut off. I'll add here and see if a full-length photo shows up!

Thank you!! Not talent really, just a willingness to go slow and figure things out. This was my great aunt's chair and she'd covered it in brown corduroy. She stuffed the pillow with goose down, not feathers! And she put dried lavender in with the down. When I got the chair, the cushion had a fresh, clean scent though it hadn't been cleaned or aired for decades.

I still have her recipe for applesauce cake, too. She lived to the ripe old age of 99, so I freely give that cake to people I love!

Can I see one of your book covers sometime? Not if you don't feel like it, no pressure at all. It would be fun for me, that's all.

I hope you're doing well!!

Hey HCHC I said I'd post a book cover for you so here it is. I write a mystery series as well as cat nonsense and design covers for that series. Here's one to give you  an idea of the kind of thing I like to do. (I guess you'd call it cover design and not "art"). Basically it's 4 separate jpgs overlaid on each other (I have an account at iStock, where I get my photos) -- the most distant is the sky and ocean,  then comes the tree and foliage,  then comes the dog my detective was searching for, then comes my detective. I fool around with placement until I get everything "just right". Oh, the blank space at the top is where my name and the book title went . . . I left these off as it's against BB rules to self-promote. I LOVE making book covers!!!

Oh my goodness I can see that you do! I can't believe that you write, too, how cool is that?

Your cover has all the moodiness and enigmatic feel you'd expect from a mystery book. The foliage and rocks look as if they've been sort of darkened until they're a silhouette; the rocks too. Nice and foreboding!! It's interesting the way the heroine's hair, the cute dog and the sky all have warm tones, and the mysterious way she looked over her shoulder. She's alert, but not afraid. Weill done!

Thanks so much for sharing! I love it!

You sure have an artist's eye, HCHC! You described so eloquently my "process" in designing my mystery covers: natural objects to convey a mood, a balance of light and dark. Sometimes I just browse through iStock's photos like I'm walking through an art gallery. So many beautiful photos!

That is absolutely beautiful! If you can't find a spot in your house for it to live, you're welcome to send it my way!
