Insomnia

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents here.  I just came out of the most brutal insomnia.  I don't have much memory for about 2 1/2 months.  I do remember, however, that during the worst of it, I felt so miserably sick, nauseated, dizzy, everything hurt, etc.  I didn't think before that experience that a person could live on that little sleep.  But you can, and you will get through it.  I now generally get about 4-5 hours in a 24 hour period, sometimes as much as 9.  I tried magnesium glycinate, which I think helped a little bit.  I considered trying doxepine, which I had heard some people had success with.  I started sleeping a bit better the week that my doctor sent the script in, so I decided not to.  But it is an option.  I definitely agree about the microsleep.  I read ThEwAy2's success story and found it really helpful and inspiring, especially as regards to sleep. :)

@[Br...] - This may be something you've tried bit I thought I'd throw it out there in case you havne't and it's worth trying.  I had severe insomnia only for a month or so early in withdrawal so what helped me may not touch yours.  Some people don't respond well to it but I was helped by making a very strong infusion using 2 or 3 bags of Chamomile tea.  Also very warm baths with 2 cups of Epsom salts and an essential oil, in my case, lavender.  These two things helped give me at least a couple hours of sleep.  Epsom salts are essential magnesium and it's thought by some that your body absorbs some of the magnesium through the skin.  I found I couldn't take magnesium because it gave me diarrhea (sorry).  I hope you get some relief soon.

Do you exercise Bree? If you can, try to time it 1-2 hours before bedtime. Make sure it is not too intense and 20-30 minutes in duration. Indoor Stationary bikes are perfect for this. I would at least try all the things everyone has mentioned before caving and using Ambien. If you have to use Ambien,  I would try to use it only intermittently during really bad episodes only while trying things that will allow natural sleep.

Fatal insomnia is a hereditary condition and you cannot develop the hereditary type that is EXTREMELY rare.  There is also an EXTREMELY RARE sporadic type.  You'd have a better chance of being struck by lightning underground on a sunny day than having fatal insomnia.  In addition, there are also several other neurological symptoms that accompany that.  I can guarantee you that you DO NOT have fatal insomnia,  although almost everyone that has gone through Benzo-induced insomnia believes they have it at some point?

@[[E...] . . buenas noticias . . . El sueño natural volvió y ahora no necesito tomar nada.

@[or...]

Igualmente me sigo despertando muchas veces y aveces me vuelvo a dormir y otras no.

Y tambien me funciona bastante bien.

Animo.!!
