Request for Titration Schedule

[Sa...]

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm currently taking .5mg of Kolonapin at bedtime.

Would like to taper off slowly with titration schedule, not sure what rate to request?

Here is the information you will need to supply, SammyJ4567.

Start date: when you would like your titration to start.

Dose: the dose you anticipate you be taking at the start date (in mgs).

Tablet dose: the dose of your individual tablets.

Number of tablets: the total number (and/or fractions) of tablets you take per day. Examples: 2 tabs; 2.5 tabs; 0.75 tabs. These are the number of tablets (not doses), and the tablets used must be of the same dosage (strength).

Taper rate: if you are unsure, ask for the input of others. The majority of people probably titrate at a rate of about 10% of their dose every 7-14 days. If you are unsure of where to start, and unless you have good reason to think you need a particularly slow taper, 1% per day is probably a good starting point. The taper plan can be altered later if need be.

Cylinder details: I will need to know the size of the cylinder you are using (100ml is recommended). I will also need to know that size of the marked increments. Just make sure that there enough increments for the given cylinder to ensure that the pill can be divided into small fractions (100ml cylinder with 1ml increments is always fine; 100ml with 2-5 increments is probably fine; 50ml with 5ml increments is not very useful). If you are using very large dose pills (for your given benzo), such as 10mg Valium or 2mg Xanax, you will absolutely need lots of increments. This usually means a 100ml cylinder with 1ml increments.

Many people seem to start by decreasing by 1%/day then going faster or slower depending on how they react.

Hi Beeper,

I just started a taper, going from .5mg of Kolonapin to .375 and am feeling like this is too much of a jump for me.  I would like to start titration as soon as possible.

Start Date:  Today 6/23/11

Dose:  Just higher than .375, but lower than .5 (Unsure but need to taper more slowly)

Tablet does is:  0.5mg

Number of Tablets per Day: 1 at bedtime

Taper Rate:  1% per day

Cylinder Datails:  Please Advise, I'm confused about this.

I'm afraid I've cut down too far too fast from .5 to .375.  I'm ready to give up  :-[.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi SammyJ4567:

Information on supplies you will need to buy can be found in these videos.  The supplies are reasonably priced on both amazon and ebay.

We need to know exactly what dose you want to start from.

Are you going to use a 100ml cylinder with 1ml markings?  This works best.

I will be happy to post a schedule for you within 24 hours, once you post your info.

best,

Hi Sammy:

Do you mean you are using .5mg tablets, and you would like to start titrating from .45mg?

Hi Draftsman,

Yes, I would like to being tritating .05 mg every 10 days.  I'm at .5 mg right now, and would like to go down to .45 to start.

Thanks for all your help!

Hi Sammyj4567:

Your schedule is identical to Zeoul's, so I am posting the same schedule here.

So if I understand correctly, you wish to titrate .5 mg.  Here is a schedule for a 1% daily reduction based on your .5mg dose.  The following titration plan will take you about 100 days to complete, but you can easily slow things down at any point.  See how you feel and adjust accordingly.  Please review the plan with your doctor.

Everyday, you will crush and titrate one .5mg. tablet.  It is important that you crush thoroughly with a mortar and pestle.

Crush (.5mg) throughly into powder and mix it thoroughly with 100ml (cc) liquid.  Each day, you will start with this original mixture (.5mg in 100ml liquid).  Each day you will cumulatively remove and discard 1ml from this mixture immediately upon mixing vigorously in the manner described below.

So....

Day 1: make your original mixture and remove 1ml.  Divide the remaining into your daily doses, drink one dose.

Day 2: make your original mixture and remove 2mls.  Divide the remaining into your daily doses.

Day 3: make your original mixture and remove 3mls.  Divide the remaining into your daily doses.

Day 4: make your original mixture and remove 4mls.  Divide the remaining into your daily doses.

Day 5: make your original mixture and remove 5mls.  Divide the remaining into your daily doses.

...and so on.

Make sure to keep a log of your cuts so you don't lose track.  You may wish to split your dose into two or more daily doses.  If you do so, we recommend you space your doses as evenly as possible.  You can keep unused doses in covered glasses in the fridge for up to 3 days.  Your taper can easily be adjusted.  If you find you are doing well, you can speed it up by increasing your daily cuts to 2ml.  Conversely, you can always slow it down by removing 1ml every other day.  Just play it by ear.  A 5ml baby dropper, available at most drug stores may be helpful.  A 3ml plastic pipette is also helpful.  I hope things go well for you.
