Advice about Valium Cold Turkey

[Lo...]

Recommended Posts

Just had to go cold turkey as previous Psychiatrists taper schedule was only six weeks for a daily use varying from 10 -30mg.

After this failure I stupidly went back on to my online purchased supply. Psychiatrist will offer me no further support because of my self medication. Currently on day 5 of cold turkey and suffering badly.

Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated. I am dreading Christmas as I find it difficult to get through each minute and hour and the thought of trying to socialise on Christmas day seems impossible with the increased social anxiety I am suffering.

Kind regards,

Hey Lottie,

Some people can quit these drugs with little to no problem, those who can't usually find their way here because they're in pain and need to understand whats happening to them.  When I quit cold turkey I thought I'd been poisoned, I had no idea these drugs needed to be tapered and I couldn't find anyone in my community who could tell me what was happening.

You're going to hear from people who will try to discourage you from continuing your cold turkey because it's dangerous and incredibly painful.  Even doing a slow, safe taper is painful but a cold turkey is horrific.

I survived mine and you can survive yours but its going to test you.  I would suggest you let the people in your life know you're going through a rough time right now, if you feel comfortable telling them the truth then do that, but if you don't then at least let them know you're feeling under the weather and won't be able to socialize this Christmas.  The less stress you place on yourself the better.

Educate yourself as best you can about what you're facing so you won't be so fearful but fear is one of our worst symptoms so its going to be tough to combat.  This is my success story if you're interested in knowing what I went through.  Pamster’s Success Story

What is happening in your brain was written by a member to help us see what this process does to us from a scientific aspect, it breaks down the different parts of the brain and explains why we feel this way.

Read chapter 3 of the  The Ashton Manual to see why you're feeling the way you are, it actually helped me to realize what I was feeling was normal.

Whatever happens, whether you decide to reinstate and taper or continue this path, we'll support you.

Hi, I can only speak of my experience and I certainly don't want to frighten you, but i was taken off of 40mg Valium in a similar timeframe when I booked into a detox place. I didn't know what had hit me, bundles of symptoms from brain fog to lack of breath, from collapsing to compete lack of sleep.

They basically told me it was simple anxiety and would pass in a few days...... And these were the experts eh. Finish your last dose and you're sorted... Yeah right.

I too reinstated from an 'online source' if you want to call it that, and I'm doing a long taper my way.

Dr's and drug experts don't seem to know shit and I since learned a lot from forums like these.

I don't know what you'll decide to do, I hope you have the strength to do what I couldn't and battle through the effects of a rapid detox.

All the best to you man 🙌

Lottie, my heart goes out to you. I too was forc ed to go CT after a 3o year love af. fair with nightly benzos for insomnia. I am a Registered Nurse, and I thought I knew what would happen. That turned out to be WAY wrong. My WD was nothing like I was told in school or even on the job! For heavens sake, I worked in a detox place and never once heard anything bad about benzo wd. It hurts me to look back and wonder if I "blew off" some patients just because they seemed "needy" or med seeking. I just did not knopw how benzo wd can be for a few unlucky people. That remains a mystery, why most people quit benzos suddenly and do not have an ugly wd or even a wd at all. It appears that just a small percentage of people will have an ugly benzo wd.

I think now is a good time for you to reach out more. For extra support, especially because the holiday season is upon us. What worked for me was feading a lot of posts and sending PMs top those who sounded somewhat like me. This worked well, and I made several friends back then in w20q2 who STILL are my friends. Reading Success Stories by people who went CT too might ease your fears and also distract your over busy mind a bit. Please know that because its your BRAIN that has to heal, almpzt any sort of weird symptoms can occur and be completely "normal" for benzo wd.

Would you keep us posted on how you are doing?

east (Annie)
