Do I need to split up doses?

If I was just taking 1mg of Ativan in the mornings for years, why do I need to split up my doses for my taper? Could I just keep cutting my one morning dose?

You don't have to split doses.  As long as you are doing alright and it's working for you, then I say "go for it". If/when you are struggling to cope due to withdrawal and find that things are a bit up and down, it's something you can change at that point and it should theoretically even things out.
