Just discovered my grandma is having xanax wd

Dear all,

This topic is not related to me, its about my 78 years old grandmother, She is in bad shape for a longer time now, mostly just in bed. She has all kind of problems but so i thouht its related from overall pain, but today I brought her lunch and she started crying, I havent seen her cry in my entire life, I checked her meds, and found out is is taking xanax, 0.5 mg 2x daily.. Here is running under different name so thats why i never noticed this before.

 

I advised her to immediately go to psichiatry, to fix her medications. As xanax was prescribed to her by her cardiologist, as plood pressure medication,  I told her this is not a joke, she told me shes taking this  more then 10 years, I advised her to not stop with it and never change the dose randomly.

 

I dont want her to stop this medication for sure., I think her body is alredy in wd mode,.. Fuck theese doctors rlyy.

She doesnt want to believe to me, but im sure about it I know as i am on klonazepam..

 

No questions here maybe just one, I have some diazepam/Valiun at home, would it help her to change or add some, or better just wait till she can get to a a specialist.

No I would not suggest adding another benzo to the xanax your grandmother is taking. She may be in tolerance to the dose of xanax she is taking but the first step is to talk to her doctor.  Thank you for telling her not to change doses or stop taking the xanax suddenly.

 

If your grandmother has other health issues, it's important to have her doctor involved in her care. 

 

I can tell you care and are concerned, I'm glad she has you as an advocate.
