Study, Nov./16: Effect of SSRIs on estrogen, placental function & fetal health

This Canadian study is called "Fluoxetine and its active metabolite norfluoxetine disrupt estrogen synthesis in a co-culture model of the feto-placental unit". (Fluoxetine is Prozac.)

It states, "Considering the crucial role of estrogens during pregnancy, our results raise concern about the impact of SSRI treatment on placental function and fetal health."

I'd be curious to know what kind of information is given to pregnant women who are taking SSRIs. This is one of a number of studies that I've read that look at the effects of SSRIs on the fetus. It seems there are quite a few unknowns at the present time.
