Withdrawal tried alcohol

This is a comment and a question.  Well, I had a birthday.  I decided to try to drink some wine (too much), but I have to say it felt so good to have a break from the constant withdrawal symptoms.  Well, as most of the more seasoned people will testify, this was a colossal mistake.  A couple of days later, I feel like I set myself back.  So, does anyone know if this is temporary?  I am hoping it is.  For anyone thinking about it, be careful.

Hi Andrew, in my experience - it isn't permanent damage. I think it just acts like a benzo so it's a bit like taking another Benzo pill which of course adds a few days onto your withdrawal etc

Hi Nu:  I am so sorry you are going thru hell.  Intellectually, I know you will get better.  Easy to say, but I have and am experiencing a lot of what you have been posting.  As someone said to me, one foot in front of the other.  I am better than when I first jumped after a long appropriate taper, yet I still make mistakes.  Best wishes to you!

For me, personally, ONE glass of wine doesn't affect me (and I've just jumped).  However, drinking straight alcohol (gin, vodka, etc.) will make me sleepy and the next day I felt awful!!!!  Everyone is different but I'd concur with your observation that us "old timers" know booze isn't helpful right now.  Your issue is only temporary - thank goodness!  Be well.  PS: Happy Birthday!
