ideas needed against real noise

Hello buddies,

I cannot change the place I live. What avoids my sleep here is a deep noise, 2 noises, one on 50 hz, and the other on 10 hz. Its a pump from a neighbor next to my house which is running all day and all night. I am so tired to hear it - since 2 years!!!!

I used to put ear plugs PLUS white noise on my ears at night - but that for sure is not a solution for ever AND made my tinitus worse.

So I want to try to find a machine which I install in my sleeping room to predominate that f*** pump noise.

The Problem: It has to make a very deep noise. Usually machines that produce that are big. And I cannot install a heating plant or so in my room.

It is not a tinitus! It has been measured by a specialist. But I cannot do anything because it is still legal to run that machine with that noise BECAUSE ONLY SENSITIVE HUMANS can hear it.  :idiot:

So - anyone an idea??

Perhaps someone who has a tinitus in that pitch? Or any mechanics here???

Oh man. I am so pissed off. My sleep is getting better and the only thing that stands between him and me is that machine.

PS: Killing the neighbor is not an option. Talking neither. Don't ask.

Thank you for any idea,

Marigold

Are you sure the one running at 10Hz is bothering you? People cannot hear anything below 20Hz.

Have you tried custom made earplugs? Those can be a good investment...

First: earplugs stop noise yes - BUT: they cannot stop noise that is such low. Then you have the effect that you seem to hear the deep tone much more, because the higher ones are reduced.. Sad, I know.. I tried every ear plug on the planet. the earplug industry loves me :smitten:

Second: There are people who can hear below 20 HZ, but "hearing" is different. I couldn't translate the word into english:-( In my case I can hear deep noises around 20 HZ (tested in a lab) but more than hearing with the ears its hearing with the head/the stomach - it feels like standing beside a subwoover or in a club you know when you feel the basses in your body..

The problem is the rhythm in which that machine switches between the 2 hights - that makes you feel like sitting on a motor which interrupts every second and that makes a feeling like "falling" - not easy to explain. Even if I was able to stop the one tone which has about 50 hz, still the lower one will make that on-off-on-off-feeling. I think the main problem is the lower one, which is definilty infrasound.

Therefore I like to try to create more tones in my room in order to create a bigger spectrum of tones - oh I hate that my english is not good enough but I hope you get what I try to explain :-[

Hug,

Marigold

Hi Marigold1, It sounds annoying as hell. Some of us just cant sleep when there is some annoying sound going on. Even if it is light it is constant like the Japanese water torture. I have the same problem sleeping (I don't have any noise from my neighbors).

What about a humidifier, I have one in my bedroom and my family room. I use it for smoking. It sucks up the smoke. Maybe that would be a less annoying noise. I'm trying to brainstorm ideas.

Also you could get one of those sleeping CDs with sounds to sleep. To me that is just noise and does not help but a lot of people swear by it. I am not sure what else to suggest If I think of anything else I will let you know.

Yes it IS TORTURE!!!!! And all the others come to my place telling me "its not sooooo bad" - thats very helpful :brick wall:

And the hole nature sounds are just a noise more on top but thats like if you turn the radio on while the baby is crying - doesn't help at all.

So if you see or hear anything humming or buzzing which would normally never be used by a normal human - tell me!!!!

A humidifier!! Can you tell me a brand? The ones I can buy here are not making any loud noise.

O god imagine myself going into a shop: "I want the machine that is the loudest one" Hello, crazy!

Thanks Davis!

Hi Marigold!

Anything that interrupts our sleep on a regular basis can be torture.

How about a table or standing fan?  I love the swooshing noise it makes and it helps me sleep.  If it is too cool to have it blowing out into the room, you can turn it to the wall.  When I was younger, I loved to sleep to the sound a spin washer or tumble clothes dryer made.  Now, I know you can't install a washer and dryer in your bedroom!  How about a recording of something like that you could play on an endless loop during the night?  Also, I have a phone app that plays things like the sound of a hair blow dryer, vacuum cleaner, etc. that is to soothe babies.  Would that work?

Hi She,

I tried a fan - not enough noise power.

A dishwasher, Washing machine and so on works very well even if its in the kitchen but I cannot spend the money washing every night for 8 hours and I would have to reload it after its finished..

I would need some of those old mini fridges that keep you awake in a hotel room!! But I cannot find those - its so ironic. the new products don't make noise.

To play a recorded noise does NOT function because the loudspeaker has not the power ...

Thank you for your ideas - the direction is right!!

Marigold

To all:

Hey go on, the one who finds a solution for me will get a little poem from me and a 1-week-every-day-support per PN!

How about a window unit AC?  It could be small and turned only on fan if the cooling element is too much.  They make the requisite amount of noise I believe. ;D

Window unit air conditioner like this:  They make a low level mechanical noise similar to a refrigerator.

Hmm a Gatling gun or a plasma cannon mounted anywhere in your home should work.Just start blasting down walls that should do the trick.

I know how you feel i cant handle noises either and my neighbors are always outside revving their engines all-day , then i got dogs barking on both sides..  I just put a big oscillating fan next to my head every night it helps since its pretty loud. If that doesn't work i usually get on my roof top and man the plasma cannon blasting everything to smithereens in a 2 mile radius.

I am not sure if I understand you right - are you joking with that gun-thing? I am in a country in which you cannot have guns or use them ???

And it seems you guys are all having fans that I cannot buy here - ours are not making noise.. - funny. I used to look for anything that doesn't make noise and now that I search noise-makers - nothing...

Poor Marigold!  How about calling the cops!  >:D >:D

Harhar. They would listen, tell me I am crazy and go.

That sounds typical!

more typical would be that you call them and no one could come because there is too much to do..

Yeah i was joking about the gun thing. Plasma cannons are a science fiction laser gun. I am a nerd.

Maybe you could move your bed into the living room? Less noise in there? Sound proof the walls like a music studio?

Ah I knew I have used a plasma canon before!! Playstation.. ratchet and clank..

We thought about isolating the sleeping room but had to learn that this kind of noise gets louder the better the house is isolated. Its the same effect with ear plugs, you are only isolating the deep sound from the higher ones and so you will notice the deep noise much louder. Such a mess.

Yikes! Sounds like you have tried everything. :-[

Noises like nature/white noise and so on: no.

Earplugs: no.

How about a small air compressor?  We have one here that we use to inflate pool toys.  Plug it in, turn it on, that's it.  May not have the right kind of noise though.

The only things that I can think of would be guided meditation. YouTube has bunches of them on video. Also your favorite relaxing music might work.      :)

Thats a good idea. Today I thought I have a second challenge: I might find the right machine for me - BUT THEN THE NEIGHBORS IN THE HOUSE WOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT MY MACHINE!!???? :-\
