Knackered Seeks Progress with Benzos

Hey there, Knackered here.  At the risk of exposing too much of my mindset or personality, I should confess that I read the “Mother Jones Daily.” Don’t get scared now, it is progressive and controversial, but it’s also free.  The whole monthly thing costs and is more than I can afford, but you can subscribe to the daily just by searching it out and pushing “yes.”

This morning’s article freaked me out.  The defeat of one candidate in a recent primary led a commentator to state that “progressive thinking in that region was dead.” I don’t know how you feel about all that but it certainly set me back a bit.

Progressive thinking refers to a mindset that’s all about change and innovation.  It involves open-mindedness, forward looking concepts and a desire to challenge traditional ways of doing things. It also values diversity, and equality in decision making.

To my way of thinking this sort of thing is devoid of any particular religion or culture. It simply yearns for the best way forward for individuals and society at large.  Synonyms for this sort of thing are forward thinking, innovation, a modern outlook and futuristic perspective. Is that not a good thing?

Without this type of stuff, we’d be in a sad way.  Since our ancestors crawled out of the mud and developed a nervous system and some degree of mobility, progress has gotten us to the point we’re at now.  Giraffes now have long necks (all the short necked ones died off because they couldn’t reach the leaves when the trees became too tall).  And if we don’t kill them all off, they will continue to move on in the evolutionary process.  This is the natural pathway of all life.  Things, people, animals, thinking are not static.

Being progressive is what this website is all about.  Pain and suffering are not stopping points where any of us wish to linger.  We want to move on, get off this junk and still have a life afterwards. We don’t want to be stuck in drug dependency or have our lives held hostage by providers who just want to prolong the process, or seek to control what we know we need to do.

It’s absolutely essential that we don’t attempt this on our own.  Support means reaching out to new people, ideas, and ways of making all this happen as effectively as possible. That does involve some degree of risk. But putting yourself out there with fellow travelers might literally save your life.  Just sticking with the same old, same old could seriously mess you up.

Progressive people do sometimes have to push on through some difficult circumstances.  Folks who wish to remain ‘as is’ despite new knowledge and necessary change can be a force to contend with.  But, according to Frederick  Douglas, “If there’s no struggle, there’s no progress.”
