HI TO ALL, I WOULD LIKE TO ASK A QUESTION HAS ANYONE HAD STOMACH PAIN ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STOMACH RIGHT BELOW THE RIB? CAN IT BE A MUSCLE SPASM, OR GALL BLADDER? I WENT TO THE ER AND HAD THE FOLLOWING TEST DONE: BLOOD WORK,URINE SAMPLE,CAT SCAN,AND SONOGRAM EVERYTHING CAME BACK NORMAL!!! IVE HAD THIS UNCOMFORTABLE FEELING FOR 2 TO 3 WEEKS NOW!!!

Hey Linc-

Glad to hear you had it checked out and that the tests were negative.  I had the same thing for a long time, but never related it to benzos.  I also had mine checked out and like you, all test came back negative.  I would not describe mine as stomach pain, more like a cramp below my rib cage- right side- felt more like a pulled muscle that never got better.

In retrospect it may have been benzo related, as it has been gone since getting off the xanax.  Not sure if my thing is the same as yours, but wanted to share.

I have the same thing. First I thought I pulled a muscle vacuuming, then knowing it is near where they took my gall bladder out, I thought maybe it was scare tissue. I still have it mostly all the time but I do have days that I don't notice it much. Sometimes it aches like a charlie horse if I turn a certain way. Hopefully, it will go away soon!!

i had/have the same thing. It started out like you described...as "flank pain", but would sometimes roam...sometimes lower back, and sometimes lower right abdomine. now it's just focused in the lower right abdomine. i had CT scan to rule out kidney stones, gallbladder, pancreas, etc. i'm very certain it's benzo withdrawal...but am still investigating it medically...am seeing a gastro guy. I'm guessing it has to do with some sort of muscular/intestinal spasticity.  i went Cold Turkey...was using .125 mg of Klonopin for a few months.  you wouldn't think such a small dose would have such large consequences, but i've since read that withdrawal symptoms are not related to dose size.

I'm at the point now where almost every rogue pain I get is immediately attributed to withdrawal. Normal pain, such as I'd get from working out, well, that's from working out, but the weird stuff - all w/d IMHO.

I had  the same thing. There were times when I thought something must have burst inside because it hurt so bad. My flank pain was so bad I used to pass out. I had every test imaginable done and was hospitalized numerous times.  My liver function is poor because of this medication and I also flunk the adrenal tests and lots of others. NO DISEASE CAUSED THIS!!! this is all caused by benzo's and the good news is ... knowing that, and taking care of that, will keep us all alive!

Hi Linc, benzo use causes GERD I had it for years, but now for the first time in years,... almost 7 months off the b's, I don't take anything. GERD may or may not be causing the pain. You will know in time. Be carefull taking rantidine all the new acid reflux drugs act by affecting histamine in your brain. If you don't need it stay away from it because any of this type of drug "can" for "some people" prolong withdrawals. Use your best judgement and hang in there. I know it is scary. One thing that was semi-reassuring to me was I took my temperature when I thought maybe my appendix (spelling?) had burst. I figured I was in too much pain any way to know what was what but I thought if I had a high fever that might tell me. Then I learned that body temp changes are also normal in benzo withdrawal...HAH!...but still it did help.

wonderwoman...what was the progression and length of your healing like? did you have windows where you felt better? how was your sleep? did the pain slowly resolve itself or just stop one day? did the pain get worse with eating? did you take anything to help you with the pain?

Thanks, histamine in your brain? what is that? how does it do this? or how can this prolong w/d?

Hi Linc, check your med on-line and see if it is an h-blocker, but I think everything now except Tums is. That means it works by blocking the release of histamine in your brain. Histamine is just another chemical (not exactly the right term) in your brain. It is supposed to be there it has many uses and jobs. But when it is blocked in the brain, it stops acid from being produced in your stomach. Acid is needed to digest proteins in particular. All I am trying to say is if you don't think you are suffering from Gerd be careful this drug does works in your brain and maybe your brain doesn't need any more funny things changing the way it works.:)

Good point, WW.  I was diagnosed with GERD after a gastroenterlogist did an endoscopy (essentially, I had to swallow a small camera) and found the evidence in my lower espohagus.  I didn't have any stomach pain, just the problem of stuff coming up when I laid down.  :P  I now sleep on a wedge to keep myself elevated and make sure I don't eat within 4 hours of bedtime.

Hi Klono Pine, I was cold turked off of 30mg Valium after being in Tolerance Wiithdrawals for years. I realize now that  all the internal pain started  when my Doctor switched me off 4mg clonazapam to 30mg Valium. That is like going from 80 mgs to 30mgs. Yikes! The healing has been long. I am still healing. I couldn't eat normally for years. I threw up so much I would just suck on life savers all day and yes it hurt when I ate. So far as pain goes it started like kidney pain or flank pain they call it wow, in 2005 I guess, and then just kept progressing,..stared to wrap around to the front of me. Now I still have this incredibly bad nerve pain that feels like internally.. I'm being stitched up alive with huge needles. But it does seem to move around a bit and some times it changes intensity. Now I can sleep better. I remember when I used to just rock back and forth in pain.

My Doctor put me on Oxycontin for the pain and NO it didn't help. Some times a little warm bath and or an ice pack helps. For me I'm getting better slowly but it seems like that the healing speeds up the more time passes and that really is encouraging. I don't remember windows for the pain but I know I have had them. I forget the windows I've had with a certain symptom when I am having it again! But compared to a year ago, on the meds the pain was in a lot of ways WORSE, I know that sounds hard to believe but it really was!!! There is a night and day difference to my life now! :)

Prilosec can increase your heart rate.  I actually had an advers reaction to it.  Caused Tachacardia within 1 hour after taking it.  They do think it was complicated by other meds I had taken while I was injured but you might want to read to side effects online and see if that might be giving you the feeling that you didn't take your lorazepam.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's possible.  Mine has hurt for a while now, which is one reason I'm going to see a gastro/liver specialist Wednesday.  Some benzos ( I know valium does) affects the liver.

Hope you fee; better soon!

Hi Missy and Linc, I know it screws up liver function! That is one of the most destructive things it does. I was supposed to have a liver biopsy this month.  I was diagnosed with Non-alcoholic non-infectious hepatitis a few years ago.  Knowing your baseline is a good idea. If it comes out bad like mine try not to worry because you'll know why.

I can hardly wait until I am well enough to get another blood test so I can sing..."Neeener, neeener, neener, you're a  stupid weeener!" to my Doctor. ;)
