Metallic Taste in Mouth while Tapering? Anyone?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this could possibly be related, but I have been tapering for seven weeks. I have been taking Xanax for over twenty years. I am currently at a bit below 1.5 milligrams per days. I have a long way to go as I am cutting 10 per cent every two-three weeks.

A few weeks ago I noticed a metallic taste in my mouth. I do not have gum disease as I recently visited my dentist. Just thought I would ask if this is a symptom of tapering off benzodiazepines.

Welcome to Benzo Buddies!   Yes, this is a symptom of benzo withdrawal.  Heather Ashton mentions it in her manual, and I have heard other members mention it.

@[st...]  Absolutely.  I have been dealing with it for many months.  However, some say theirs has disappeared much sooner.  Mine is metallic/salt combination.

I do hope this resolves for you much sooner than later.  Wishing you the best.

Warmly,

F

I actually forgot about this!  I had that for probably two years or better while tapering - and yes, it was really annoying but tolerable.  I thought it was sinus-related and just dealt with it.  I honestly can't remember when it left but it's probably been gone for almost a year now.  Wild!  Like you, I was on Xanax for 20+ years (including my very long taper).  Hopefully, yours will disappear soon as well.
