Hi arafurapearl, how was your New Year's Eve?

Two years ago, the four year old daughter of a good friend of mine, while at a daycare, died as a result of choking on a grape.  Whenever I can, I urge parents if they must give grapes to a young child, please cut them in half.  And please become familiar with the Heimlich Maneuver so you can hopefully prevent someone from a choking  tragedy.

Hi Pj.

What a horrible event for your friend losing his child. I really can't imagine such nightmare .

NYE was OK an excellent view of the fireworks from my ( rich ) friends faded but atmospheric house with views of the bridge & opera house .I only really knew my friend there. Her musician/ artist  boyfriend had his friends there, an arty bunch. I had some champers but didn't much like it as alcohol makes it hard for me to focus & with strangers too. Hubby enjoyed it OK but isn't really much of a socialising type.

How was your NYE ? Did you have fireworks at midnight ? Sydney is quite famous for it's show.

Regards Arafurapearl :)

Hi arafurapearl,

Yes, it was so very sad, and devistating to the parents.  I don't believe that one ever gets over the loss of a child that was so very young.

What a nice view you had of the festivities.  There was a movie called, " A View From The terrace" with Paul Newman, great movie!

I enjoyed a rather quiet evening with friends.  We gathered together and reflected on the past and the future, and drank a little wine, and just talked, and talked the night away.

Hi jr,

It was indeed 'Tricky Dickey', seeking the approval of dog lovers.

Julia Child was quite tall, standing at 6' 1"

Which play by the French dramatist de Beaumarchais did Rossini turn into an opera?

Which jazz trumpeter recorded the albums Bitche's brew and Birth of the cool?

Who wrote the music for West Side Story?

Which female singing voice lies between soprano and contralto?

I'll pass on the Rossini, although I like some operas a lot, its not an area of much expertise for me.

One of the greatest:  Miles Davis  recorded Birth of the cool, I assume he also did Bitchie's brew

Leonard Bernstein wrote the music for West Side Story

Mezzo soprano is between soprano and contralto.

Here's my addition:

Why is Chopin's waltz called the "Minute Waltz" ?

What do you suffer from if you have trisaidekaphobia??

The opera is The Barber of Seville....  just curious, do you sing soprano?

you are correct on the other questions  :)

trisaidekaphobia, is the reason why hotels and elevators don't have a number 13 ;)

Why was Chopin's waltz called the "Minute Waltz?".....because it could be danced in a a minute ???

I don't know the name of the Vomit Comet but it is the plane that astronauts go up in and it drops quickly so they can experience weightlessness briefly and vomiting, too.

I forgot to answer this one: 3 valves. I have my sons old trumpet on the mantle as a decoration.

Hi PJ,

Yes I used to be a soprano, but age and lack of practice has me dropping like a lead balloon. But I still sound good in the shower.  :D

trisaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13.

The minute waltz is played in about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, it was called minute as in tiny.

I'm lost on the new questions, so I'll pass on those.

You're pretty sharp, I just relized that your question about the number 13, was asked on Friday the 13th :D

I bet you still have a beautiful singing voice in or out of the shower.

The official nickname of the plane is the Weightless Wonder.  With all the weight I put on during benzo withdrawals, I definitely cannot be called a weightless wonder.  I guess I will settle for a heavy weighless wanna be.  I've been starting to exercise more with my Border Collie, so hopefully I will drop the 20 pounds that I put on.

take care :)

What is the name of the rotund Governor of NJ?  I live in NJ  Its  Christie............ :socool:

honeym,  do the people dislike Christie as much as the media would have us believe, or is it mostly the unions that are fighting back?  He seems like a common sense, straight shooter kinda guy from what I have seen of him.

The answer to who said, "Some women get excited about nothing-and then they marry him? that would be Cher.

Oh ya, I have been to NJ.......Atlantic City, also visited some folks who resided in  the borough of Audubon.

I remember the hockey one partly because I remember the mask. I think he is the one who painted all the stitches he had had from pucks onto his mask! Ugh! Poor guy. Lots of stitches taken and teeth lost in the name of the great almighty sport, eh? :D    :idiot:
