sudden muscle jerks (myoclonus) - has anyone experienced this?Does it get better

Recommended Posts

I am on DAY 16. On day 8 now lasting until today I am experiencing  "restless legs syndrome", sudden muscle jerks (myoclonus) while drifting asleep. This is my worst symptom by far.

Has anyone experienced this? Mayo clinic web site say this is permanent and there is no cure. PLEASE say it gets better. Inability to fall asleep is horrifying.

Love you all..

I had plenty of those little muscle jerks.  They all resolved after a while.

Be careful googling withdrawal symptoms.  Very few sources have relevant benzo withdrawal information.

Yes, I had muscle jerks.  My arms and legs suddenly jerked hard and repeatedly at night.  It was weird and bothered me.  It has stopped.  Symptoms do go away.  It's important to focus on success stories.

I am currently experiencing this and It is absolutely horrifying.  I am 5 five months out from my last Klonopin and it is still occurring.  I am hoping that it stops soon.  I never had this before and I am ready to move on from it.  If you look through BB’s, you will see that a lot of people have had this same thing!  Wishing you the best.

I don't get them when trying to fall asleep anymore:) Progress....

I do get the odd one during awake hours though - random. Can't even say something sets it off. Just happens. I'm sure this will eventually go too.

Hi all, 3 months since I posted on here and I still have this symptom, the electric jolts in my brain and body when falling asleep. Is there anything I can do for this? I don’t want to get stuck with this symptom, I miss just being able to fall asleep :-( It gets worse with the early morning surges. If this and the tinnitus stopped I’d be 90% healed and so happy

This has been my worst symptom since Christmas

It appears to be really bad when I'm around a lot of noise (ie. my family) I just sit there, or lay there with these jerks and zaps, I even got them in the bath.

Sometimes, it shoots my head back etc.

How do we know that they are not seizures etc.

No way could I do a MRI, I'd jerk the entire way through it, even if I took a dose before etc.

Anyone know what causes these?

Vitamin deficiencies?

Hi Pacenik,

I had this day and night but worse when falling asleep for about 2 months late last year. Apart from a few toe twitches it seems to be gone. My twitching fingers are still going for now but I expect they will settle too. Hope this helps.

Thanks Pacenik

I take Trazodone and a very small dose of Ketotifen 0.25 mg (antihistamine).

I think the other items are possible in me too.

I've had a hard time eating and drinking lately.

I don't think I'm getting enough sodium or phosphorus in my diet either.

I'll increase and see.

I'm also seeing an specialist for my POTS related symptoms in a few weeks, so I'm sure they'll do a bunch of tests.

Winnie

I know about the benzos withdrawal jerks for sure... totally different.

When we were out (I have had chronic vomiting and nausea whilst dependant on diazepam) I was in a lot of discomfort with my tummy feeling sick... and my stomach felt like a baby was kicking hard. I have had two so I know the feeling.

I thought I was going mad until I lifted my top and saw my stomach muscles moving and contracting. I was sat on a park bench and my partner could see it to, confirming I wasn’t mad.

Docs said it’s the amount of wreching I had been doing... but the way my fingers and muscles all over my body spasms I know what’s causing it  :-\

Ive got so used to it I sometimes watch my stomach dance. Weirdly reminds me of happier times.  :idiot:

Xxx

Just an update to say the myclonic jerks have finally gotten better. Most nights I fall asleep fine now. I get them once in a while but they feel very soft now and I can push through and still fall asleep. It took 15 months to get here.

An update on this for those that suffer this symptom, it was one of my worst symptoms and has finally abated 95% of the time. I get it if I over exert myself or eat unhealthy for too long. If I do all the right things, I don't get this anymore so yes it does get better and eventually will go away for you too!

This is good to hear, thank you for updating because as you know, we all wonder what becomes of people who share these symptoms so it will be reassuring to many.
