No objections here, that was a good thread.  I should have ferreted it out myself and resurrected it instead of starting a new one.

There's no way you would know it even existed, mom.  No worries.

Switchfoot is a Christian rock group from San Diego.  They are excellent, their songs always have a deeper meaning yet the tunes carry their own weight.  They are surfers and do tons of volunteer work.  The leader is Jon Foreman.  His dad is a minister at a church in Cardiff by the Sea, near San Diego.  A fantastic group of clean, happy and very talented musicians.

Here's a song by Switchfoot called "I turn everything over, I turn myself in."

Here's another Switchfoot tune, this one compliments the last one:

One more, "We were meant to live"

And finally,

  • 2 weeks later...

Here's a lead singer that got his start in my hometown of Spokane Washington.  I saw him live at a concert in the park years ago.  He's now with the former members of Creed, now called Alter Bridge.  His name is Myles Kennedy (I named my firstborn after him)  ???

I'm sure your voice is not as bad as you think.  Anyway, I'm used to it, I have a tone deaf husband!

  tone deaf would be a necessity for anyone listening!!

I love James Taylor!  He's my mom's favorite, so I associate feelings of security with his voice.  She would always play him while she cleaned or cooked.

My daughter thinks it's hilarious that her friends freak out when she wears my old concert Rod Stewart tshirts.  They always laugh at her because she knows all the words to all of his songs!!  He's my all time favorite, but I like SO many types of music!!

Oh and if I was cleaning or cooking, it was definitely dance music!

There's just something about our parent's music.  I guess if you had a happy childhood, you associate the soundtrack to with good feelings.  My mom was a neo-hippy (no drugs, just lots of granola and homemade bread ).  She loved Simon and Garfunkle, Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills and Nash, Carly Simon, and of course, James Taylor.  I still love to hear her old music.  She's pretty hip though, and she's kept up with some of the new stuff too.

Because of my random taste in music, I think at times my kids just shake their heads!  I like all of the ones you mentioned, but I also like alot of funk and hip hop.  :D

Sometimes I think when others look at the playlist on my myspace they wonder if all of the songs there belong to the same person!!

I can go from James Taylor to Usher back to Fleetwood Mac and then to Cupid all in one sitting!    :2funny:

I exactly the same way!  I like nearly everything.  I love jazz, classical, bluegrass, folk, rock, funk, some hip hop, and especially anything that defies labels.  One of my favorites is Beck, he's so eclectic!
