Kwanza begins today - (From Wiki) Each of the seven days of Kwanzaa is dedicated to one of the following principles, as follows:

Umoja (Unity): To strive for and to maintain unity in the family, community, nation, and race.

Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): To define and name ourselves, as well as to create and speak for ourselves.

Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility): To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems and to solve them together.

Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics): To build and maintain our own stores, shops, and other businesses and to profit from them together.

Nia (Purpose): To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.

Kuumba (Creativity): To do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it.

Imani (Faith): To believe with all our hearts in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.

Is this African American culture WBB? Pretty interesting! It seems really peaceful and appreciative of the things that are really meaningful in life. I think all Americans could learn from this! I want to start a new tradition in my own family that includes this Kwanzaa celebration. Thanks for the share!

Thanks WBB...this was a great and fun distraction...I guess the next known Holiday will be Easter after Valentine's Day! I'm looking more forward to the summer Holidays like July 4th!! Nice MN summers...oh...I can't wait!  Snow all melted and walking out the door in flip flops and casual breezy shorts and t shirts, maybe a light coat at night....http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm239/yellowbirdsmom/Smileys/sleep-037.gif I can just taste it, already! hmm hmm good!    Thanks again WBB ~ it was fun!

Great thread. Thanks a bunch. It helped to keep me sane through the mad holiday season

Now it's on to the next thing. Valentines Day. The market is already loaded up with candy. Not for me. I'm on that diet where you only get to eat the food that you have hunted and gathered.

 You're so right, Rabbit. They sure do push the holidays on us, don't they?? Everything is so commercialized and all about the benjamins...it's sad really.
