I had an aunt who was addicted to a sort of egg nog liquer called Advocaat. I think I spelled it right. It's very European. As a child I drank half a bottle. I thought it was a special egg nog. I remember being very sleepy with a horrible headache, and throwing up.

I LOVE photobucket now.  Don't know how I lived without it.  WBB

Me either! I'm somewhat dependant on it...but it sure is better than a benzo dependency! So pretty some of these are...http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff156/gottitravel/christmas_tree_fireplace_graphic3.gif

Usually I make great latkes, but this year I 'm not up to all that potato grating, so I will be getting them from Trader Joe's along with the challah.  They are delicious with sour cream and apple sauce. I keep Hanukkah meals meat free, observing the Orthodox  tradition of not mixing dairy with meat. I usually do a really scrumptious mac cheese and a veggie lasagne. I round out the meal with an Israeli salad. We have cheese on the table to honor Judith who got the bad guys sleepy on wine and cheese and then murdered them. The kids always like donuts for dessert. The main theme is oily foods to celebrate the miracle of the oil lasting in the temple.

Good latkes are great year round.

OK So are the donuts like sufganiyot (sp)? or more like bimuelos (sp)?.  What is an Israeli salad?  Did someone lose their head? (hee, hee)  WBB

Welcome, Chin! Hope you stop by often...share a Christmas story or anything, for that matter.

Trivia:  A Tannenbaum is a fir tree. The lyrics do not actually refer to Christmas, or describe a decorated Christmas tree. Instead, they refer to the fir's evergreen qualities as a symbol of constancy and faithfulness.

Judith a beautiful widow, was going to be raped by this evil General who had been ogling her. Knowing this she played along and fed him wine and cheese. When he was asleep she beheaded him. Judith is beloved by my people for being a very smart cookie.

I buy sugar coated donuts with raspberry jam in the middle. An Israeli salad celebrates the bounty of  Israel, where the desert has been made to bloom with the best tasting fruits and veggies ever. My salad uses lettuce, tomatoes, spring onions, black olives and cucumbers, tossed in a light oil and vinegar dressing. Everything is as fresh as I can get it. It is better in the summer when I can pick everything from my garden.

Writing this makes me want to be in Israel.
