Very short, I tapered on my own during 2-3 weeks. I was on a low dose but my brain seems to be highly addicted to this sh..it. I was taking pills everywhere with me. It was getting insanely dangerous. I feel i'm still addicted, the craving isnt totally gone. I wonder how I Will get out of this, all doctors in France says It cant be the pills. 😣😞

Hi yong,

It's quite clear from the experiences of the many thousands of people who have been members of BenzoBuddies over many years that it is, indeed, possible for people to have ongoing issues once they've stopped taking benzodiazepines. This membership likely represents a small fraction of those around the world who have no idea why they're feeling so bad while on -- or coming off -- benzodiazepines. We're not all making up the same types of symptoms! We know that many doctors don't know about or acknowledge this problem, but we are living proof.

So, yong, stay strong. I know that everything here on BB is in English, but perhaps you can find and share some information with your doctors that's in French. Around the time of World Benzodiazepine Awareness Day (WBAD) last year, there were some videos that featured people dealing with benzo withdrawal, and many of those people were telling their stories in French (with translations into English). Perhaps I can track those down and share them with you.

You're not alone. Vous n'etes pas seul.

Good to hear that, yong! You're not dizzy today! See? It's possible! Enjoy.  :)

I've never been sure what "burning brain syndrome" is, so I can't say much about that. Maybe others can jump in here with their experiences.

I just looked it up: "Unbreakable yet tender, " or "Unbreakable and tender," in Latin.

yes! that is it. in French too right? i was actually going to have this tattoo on me but decided against it when i heard of all the metals that are involved with tattoo's.

Hi pretty,

The root words are similar, but the way to say that phrase in French is different. You could use "infatigable et tendre" or "incassable et tendre".

Merci, Monsieur! Did I get that translation right?

By the way, I looked up "benzodiazepine" and "sevrage" (withdrawal), and there was quite a bit there. Is any of the French literature useful to you for sharing with medical professionals? What about the French version of the Ashton Manual? Anything from France, Belgium, Switzerland or Canada? I've done a lot of research in English, but only a tiny bit in French. I do hope there's something that you could print out and share with others (including doctors), if you wanted them to better understand your situation.

I try to avoid physicians, it get me mad, because they don't recognize benzo withdrawal in france.... whatever you'll tell or show them. They are useless.

You was right for your translations, but "incassable et tendre" is the best one  ;)

Merci beaucoup, Monsieur! I have a couple of friends with whom I speak only in French, so I'm always trying to expand my vocabulary. "Incassable" isn't a word I use often -- especially since I broke a bone in my foot! It's clearly NOT "incassable"!  ;)

hahaha :) i prefer hear about a broken foot than broken brain hahaha

I received at home american friends that i didnt saw for 4 years today, it was good to see them again. He told me that he took an AD for 3 weeks and he CT because it was changing him and he had brainzaps during a month or so after...

Yes, I have broken brain syndrome too, yong!

It's great to hear that you saw some good friends! I hope that gave you a boost. Good friends can remind you of things that you forget during withdrawal -- like how much people care about you.

As far as brain zaps go.....yes, I had them too when I came off Prozac. I was on it for 1.5 years, and those zaps went on for quite awhile. Every time I turned my head, ZAP! So strange!

How about your anxiety lapis... How is It now ?

I have a stressing life, I dont see my dad anymore Because he is alcoholic, and My mom is stressing me so much I really consider getting a flat with my girlfriend but I dont have the strenght to work... Il sorry to Tell you my private Life but I feel stuck :(

That definitely sounds stressful, yong. If you're not confident that you can make regular payments on a flat with your girlfriend, then maybe that can be something you aim for.....just not right now. Withdrawal can make relationships with others pretty tough, so you're not alone on that one. It's really common. Does your mom understand what you're dealing with?

I'm sorry to hear about your dad, too. Alcohol works much like benzos in the body -- it's affects the same neurotransmitter, GABA -- so your dad may be just as dizzy as you are. I hope he'll seek help, but in the meantime, you have to do what's best for you. Take the best care of yourself that you can.

As for me, my anxiety has gone through the roof with this slow-healing fracture. Very, very painful. It has made everything much worse. Finally, though, there are small signs of healing. I'm trying to be patient, but I've hardly slept. Dizziness + fracture =  :'( :'( :'(

Here's a French question for you: What word are you using to describe your dizziness? "Etourdissment"? It's not "vertige", because there's no spinning (at least, for me), so I use "etourdissment", or I just describe the sensation "comme etre en bateau". The other useful word is "bouleversee" ("overwhelmed, shaken, shattered, distraught").

Anyway, please have faith that your body will heal and that you'll get back to living life fully. I'm glad you have love in your life (friends, girlfriend), because that can give you the strength to keep going and to keep putting one foot in front of the other on this difficult journey.

dear buddies,

i am nearly 13 months off and still struggle with dizziness. the thing is, when i walk it is better but when i try to stand a little longer ( > 20 sec) i get the boaty feeling...

i also have one blurred, burning eye. could that be related?

Hi intrepide,

Welcome! I'm sorry to hear about your ongoing dizziness, but it's good that you can walk without too much trouble. For many of us (me included), walking is intensely difficult. I'm not sure there's a direct relationship with your eye issue, though. Have you had it checked out? I certainly had weird visual things going on at the beginning, but I never had any burning. I just had intensely bright colours, for the most part.

Keep up the walking! The stronger you are, the better. It's really one of the best things you can do. What about when you're sitting or lying down?

if this question if for me, well tonight is not so good. but there are a few things that have been happening with me lately that may denote healing is happening - firstly, i am not on this forum as much and i will be going to a concert for the first time in almost 6 years. actually going out - out as i've been pretty much home bound this whole time.

i still get into some fear, anxiety and weakness. i still get into some looping obsessive fearful thinking that i know i probably wouldn't get into if i still wasn't healing from a brain injury.  or a CNS injury which i feel this is. i am just not all the way healed yet and there are times i feel like i may always have certain symptoms. i hope i am wrong.

you know, i was going to put up a new thread in the protracted about this. but i will share this here. so lately, i have been feeling a little better and i am able to get out and do my errands and i noticed that i've been keeping my appointments where as before i was always re-scheduling everything. and i have always been able to drive. except lately, since i still have the neuropathy in my feet -- i am not able to drive as well and feel really scared now behind the wheel because i am not feeling the pedals right. and i have a stick shift and i have to look down at the clutch before i shift and that is not good so i've had my mom take me out to my errands the last few days.

i call this a duality in the healing and quite ironic. and now it's a full blown symptom because it's been more than a few times and this symptom had better leave soon because i am now ready to get around.

maybe i still will put this up in the protracted but wanted to share it here too.

thanks Lapis!

i also checked everything for dizziness. nuclear medicine, nose-throat-eat specialist. they couldn’t find anything.

Hi intrepide,

It's good news that all your testing came back "normal". It seems to be that way for many of us. Certain things can be ruled out for sure, and I hope that puts you at ease a bit, but I know it's really hard not to have definitive answers.
