We are both admirers of Thoreau's work.

How did you become acquainted with his work? I know you love nature.

I have a book of his writings, and much of it I have yet to read

His essay on "Walking" is one I hope to complete before summer's end.

I go back to familiar passages and re-read

Funny how we cling to what is familiar ( that's one thing I am doing here; other than that, perhaps being a bit lazy).

INS, Thoreau to me was so educated yet just seemed to find his inner peace in simple things and did not conform or care for what society thought was right or wrong as he was never into big social events and such. If you ever want to read what i think was his best writing read Walden and my favorite quote ever from him is this one ~The man who goes alone can start today, but he who travels with another must wait till the other is ready ! ( Walden,72 ) Yes i guess it is my love of nature that makes me enjoy his writing he did not need money or material things to find happiness he just found inner peace in living simple ~CD

I can't seem to stay away from images of water:  whether of storms or serenity

Such magnetism

You are right about taking one's time reading through a good book

I love when I read something, then re-read it years later finding new meanings or sometimes whole new passages

that I somehow missed

It's very hot here with some storms off and on
