"Up to the Mountain - MLK Tribute" - Patty Griffin

 

 

"Up to the Mountain (MLK Song)" was written by Patty Griffin.  The song touches upon emotions surrounding Martin Luther King, Jr.'s

famous 1968  "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech, given the day before his assassination in Memphis, Tennessee.

Seems many of us are having very difficult times.

Things don't seem real in many ways; it's hard to focus, concentrate and keep an even keel.

 

Whether we are responding to challenges by being tearful, contemplative, melancholy, humorous,

or by remaining silent,

giving ourselves permission to feel is important.

     

Whether we see this journey as a wilderness trail, curved road, staircase or treacherous cliff  (insert image that pops into head),

we're all on the healing path. 

 

I chose the above picture because it represents a fellow traveler showing a route that

leads away from the maze.  Notice this route is comprised of puzzle pieces leading to

the stairs.  Perhaps the traveler standing next to the stairs had been through the maze a few times and then pieced

together a solution.  With this new course we still have to do some climbing to reach our destinations, but the path is not as confusing.

For me, this picture represents this journey and how we help each other.

 

Wishing everyone a lighter heart, lighter load, understanding, rest and peace.

Julz!   ~  These are wonderful!  I have been saving inspirational posters, quotes, etc. for several years intending to print them and make up framed collages to place in homeless shelters, etc.  There is a place of "new beginnings" for homeless women in Portland, Oregon where these and others from this thread may someday hang.  : )

 

Thanks to all who share such lovely and encouraging images, quotes and thoughts here.  They matter to me and I know they matter to others, too.
